Default Skim milk left out question

Bought a 1L of skim milk yesterday like I usually do, but stupid me forgot to put it in the fridge. It was in room temperature for 14 hours. Is it garbage? I opened the carton and it didn't smell bad. I've heard that it's not a big deal, but what do you think?

I hate throwing out food.

If it was sealed and the milk smells and tastes fine, you should be OK.

The key is to pound back the entire carton right away. It can't hurt you if you drink it quick enough.

Let us know how it goes.

I think it's done. But then I don't know if there's anything worse than bad milk.

Yeah, 14 hours, I wouldn't risk it. OR, you can find a recipe to make cheese.

Definitely wouldn't touch it.

Then again, I probably wouldn't even have opened the carton in the first place. Just the thought of curdled milk makes me gag a bit. I'm gettin out of this thread.... THROW IT AWAY!!!

You've got good bacteria in your digestive system for a reason.

Drink it!!!!!

Seriously though, just throw it out. Two dollars probably isn't worth 2 hours on the can.

Or 2 days. Had a friend take a swig of lumpy milk by accident and was still recovering 2 days later. Although, I do have to mention, he has the weakest stomach I've ever seen.

I wouldn't drink it fresh, but if you're baking, you should be okay to use it.

I wouldn't drink it. It's 1L of milk...what did that cost you, $2 at most? Is it really worth risking illness over $2?

Nah, it's almost more curiosity than anything... then again after reading some of the comments, I now ponder the consequences.

Skim Milk tastes like water anyway... I wonder if the pasteurization matters...

You hate throwing out food... even if it's bad?

I guess I'm a wasteful person, but when in doubt throw it out.

In situations like these I subscribe to the Guinea Pig method of scientific determination.

Feed it to some kids, if they survive then you're good, if not, tell the police they were like that when you got there and then run like hell.

For milk- I say 1 hour out of the fridge takes 1 day off the best before date.

So if it was out for 14 hours, and it's good for another 12 days, chuck it. If it's still good for 16 days, I'd risk it.

Well, the stuff is pasturized before it's sealed right? It might be alright. If you don't want to through it out...

Keep it around and use it for whenver you are cooking and making cream sauce for pasta or want some richer Mac N Cheese, etc.

I bought some Chocolate milk the other day, and it had an expiry date of September 17 08.

Milk with a 4 month shelf life just doesn't seem right to me.
