The death penalty is always wrong.

The most fundamental right we have is a right to life. Even violating another person's right to life is not a sufficient condition for violating the murderer's right to life.

Obviously something lesser like rape is not even an issue.

This is so obvious to me I wonder how people think any differently.

It's because people tend to be blinded by their emotions and are unable to think critically when faced with things like child rapists. It's that same weak-mindedness and inability to think critically that manifests itself as the plague of organized religion, superstition and mass credulity.

Definitely an argument to be made.

Arrogance is not a trait of strong-mindedness.

(1) I think chemical castration will prevent the offender from getting an erection. However, the yearning to abuse children does not go away, so they use digital penetration or an object. But everything I know comes from L&O:SVU so I can't believe everything I hear on TV.
(2) There are articles about on the internet about people going to jail for sexual abuse they did not commit. Often the case is a divorce case where the mother brainwashes the child to say that daddy touched her in a naughty place. In the infamous Jim Wade case the "therapist" convinced the daughter that her father was her rapist. But, hey, you know, a few innocent people killed each year... big whoopie. More people will be killed by tasers....

I'm tempted to just reply with "lol", but I won't.

The truth can't be called arrogance. Sorry.

In any case, I never said I was strong-minded. You made that jump when you fell victim to a false dichotomy. Not surprising of course.

What this whole thing boils down to is the opinion of some that child molesters surrender their rights by virtue of having molested children (or murdered, raped etc).

This is a morally repugnant view IMO.

You are a morally repugnant individual IMO...and extremely arrogant too.

Have a nice day.

Why did you quote my text out of curiosity?

evman basically discounted every opinion but his own as unintelligent and morally repugnant. How is that not insulting?

Well, I think it's because he called your 'view' morally repugnant, wheras you called 'him' morally repugnant. From a strictly semantic point of view, his statement is possibly accurate, while yours is impossible. It is not possible for an individual to be morally repugnant, but it is possible for actions and opinions to be so.

Ah, so you didn't read the thread.

That's what I thought.

evman's posts always remind me of that time that Buzz Killington showed up at my kegger.

Oh, hey, on topic, strangely enough, I am against the death penalty in all cases, though I can understand (yet not truly empathize) with the opposing view. As has been said already, even one person wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death is too many. Chemical/physical castration won't do anything in many cases, either.
