Bah. Central deserves to brag. SW has been playing like a bunch of rookies. Except for the ladies.

Pop Quiz CP:
Runner on first. Nobody out. Batter hits the ball towards first base. Runner on first takes off towards second. First baseman fields the ball and touches first base before the batter-runner gets there. First baseman then throws to short-stop covering second base who catches the ball and steps on second base before the runner gets there. Question: is the runner advancing to second base in this situation forced out?

Section 1-35 of ISF rules:
FORCE OUT: A force-out is an out which can be made only when a runner loses the right to the base which he is occupying because the batter becomes a batter-runner, and before the batter-runner or a succeeding runner has been put out.

no it has to be a tag out. the force was taken away when the fielder stepped on first technically the runner could run back to 1

Hmmm... well I'm pretty sure it is. It's not like the lead runner can come back to first and be safe right? So it should be a force out if he can only go one way. Now I'm not so positive though.
edit - I knew FKA would know. He's teh awesome.

Yeah, the batter-runner was already out, so the runner could return to first if they want. The other team tried to lecture us on this after what they percieved as a blown call in the first. I don't think so, bub. That said, our runner did admit that she was tagged before stepping on second, so the umpire (who shall remain nameless ) still blew the call. I...err, the umpire, did make two attempts at ensuring the right call was made, but the other team simply said "it's alright... lets play", then proceeded to whine about it for a bit. Well, if I'm trying to clarify and you say don't, then suck it up!
Of course, we go and score five runs, all with two out, after that. Though they did get a lot more fun to play after they tied the game, and got over it. Overall, I thought they were a good team to play.
And if that call wasn't bad enough, I feel great shame in walking THREE times last night. And I really didn't want to the third time.

By the way, because of the long weekend we don't play for two weeks. It might be a good opportunity for the SW/Central clash. I'm not as confident of a SW blowout anymore thats for sure.

I agreed with you 100% Res. However, after they worked over the umps, did you notice how they seemed to get every close call in their favour? Weird how that works in baseball too..
Bonus fun factor points to whoever let That Guy sub in and take a few cuts in the bottom of the seventh. A guy from the other team said that That Guy's been going to every game in Marlborough since last year at least and this was the first time anyone let him play.

And he hit a foul ball three-run home run too. That was great.
Though the girls aren't too happy with him.

I can't believe some of the guys on our team. You can't run interference for the ladies? I can't do it all on my own and, as REDVAN will agree, my c**kblocking skills are supreme.

Sounds like the victory was tainted by a fraudulent umpire.

I tried to help out, however after his homerun he thought he could 'score' off the field too !

That poor brunette in the yoga pants who, by the end of the game, was down to one arm felt That Guy's love too. Rough game for her.

It's alright we won by much more than the call in that inning impacted the game, and REDVAN clearly was off the juice last night. Our home run hero other than the infamous "That Guy" was another guy: Kevin Guy. He now occupies a tie for second on the CP home run list with 1 dinger.

Oh yeah that's super embarassing to biff it two times while running towards first and then taking one off the face in the field. Rough night indeed.

What are the HR standings at right now?
I think I have 6 or 7. How many people are tied for second place on the list, 3 of you guys?
And RE: Sportsjunky. I am out of town for these next two weeks, so unless youw ant a ***** beside your victory you're going to have to wait for the whole team

We got the call right. The force is removed when the batter is thrown out at first, so they have to tag the runner. This is the third time someone on the other team has argued for incorrect rules...scary.
