Downloading services?
Geeks unite...
Im looking for a service like this one...

that allows me to d/l music in mp3 formats and recent movies, etc....hopefully virus free.
What do you guys and gals suggest or use, how fast are the d/l times, and what are the hiccups if any?
Obviously Im also concerned with payment methods and how secure the business is.

This one looks like a scam, I doubt it's legal, and I suspect they're getting you to pay for stuff you could download for free elsewhere yourself.
What are you looking for? A place that allows you to purchase and download individual songs/movies (a la iTunes)? Or a place that allows you to pay a monthly fee and access a library of material (i.e. you never own it, you just pay to rent unlimited stuff)?

It's a scam. Read the disclaimer. It basically says, downloading copyrighted materials is against the law and we have no idea what people are sharing so it's up to you.
Don't pay for it. Visit MOD EDIT: Removed reference to pirate site if copyrights aren't your thing but stay away from sites that want you to pay for sharing copyrighted material.

I thought it was a scam...wasnt sure. I guess the PC magazine banner is also scammed? does it matter?
Id like to pay a monthly fee to d/l either songs or albums...mostly. The odd movie is also on the list though not important. I would like to own whatever I purchase....although Im not sure I understand how you rent unlimited stuff?

I use easynews. You have to pay a monthly fee but the downloads are fast and you can find pretty much anything. Of course if you are looking to download music and movies legally then this is not for you.

There are some services in the US that allow you to listen to all the music you want, but you can't burn it to a CD or save it in any way (Yahoo has one, Napster became one). It uses a DRM system to "expire" stuff.

I've never heard of a subscription based music service in Canada. I think they are dangerous anyways.

Yahoo offered one, but they announced they are shutting it down last Feb.
Napster and Rhapsody are the other 2 big ones, and I'm not sure they are available to Canada (I'm pretty sure Rhapsody isn't - Yahoo was transferring their US customers to them but were refunding their Canadian customers)

There are services like Rhapsody and Napster that you basically pay a monthly fee to have access to their music library. You can stream and listen to music anytime, and you can download it to some MP3 players as well. It's all DRMd so that you can only listen to it while subscribed to the service... so rather than paying $1 per song on iTunes or whatever, you pay $ per month to have unlimited music while you have the service.

For movies, that's still a pretty big hole, iTunes has movies in the US (not sure about Canada yet), and I think there's other download services starting up, but they're all pretty restrictive I'm sure.
EDIT: Too late. 
I don't mind a music subscription service, DRM makes sense in that context because the whole agreement is temporary access to all music.

iTunes rents and sells movies in Canada. 1200 titles and 200 in HD. I rented one last week and it works great. You have 30 days to watch it and once you start it, you have 48 hours to finish it.
Awesome quality. I moved it from my iMac to watch it on my iPod. It's cheaper than Shaw VOD and PPV as well.
