Default Exercise Supplements

Hey everyone,

Did a quick search and only found weight loss supplements, but here goes:

I have been starting to work out a bit, just wondering if there are some good supplements you guys take? I am looking for something that isn't too harmful, and will help me heal up quicker, and if it helps to gain muscle mass by some miracle that is cool too.

Don't suggest steriods. Also don't suggest eating healthy, because I am trying that already. Basically just looking for input as to what others use, and why. I heard BSN Cellmass is good stuff. Any opinions?

Eat healthy....make sure you get enough protein.

You could take protein shakes to increase your amount of protein, or just to make sure you get enough.

Creatine helps give you extra energy if you're lifting very heavy.

I don't use anything really....haven't found the need. There are tons of things out there, but I still believe in the 'eat healthy' and you'll do good approach.

All "supplements" are garbage. They're a waste of money, if you want to waste money then go out and buy whatever GNC is promoting this week.

That being said the following five things are must haves for any heavy lifting regime: Whey Protein powder, Creatine(not the expensive junk, just plain old monohydrate), Glutamine, Multi Vitamins and EFA tabs. Forgot about the "Muscletech" and "Animal Cuts" and all that other jazz. Go and get yourself all of the above, a 3000+ calorie(clean calories!!) diet and a solid workout regiment and I promise you'll gain lean mass.

bodybuilding.com lots of good articles, good forum and u can order supps off there site as well.. GNC is over priced.. if u dont mind waiting couple weeks i would order online..

i use a weightgainer called Cytogainer, lots of carbs and protein
and basic creatine mono
u can look in to Xtend as well, helps endurance and recovery, it has Glutamine in it.
Also look into Fish oil as it helps many ways.

If u need a pre energy enhancer.. basically powdered Red bull try out White Flood, NO Shotgun and NO Xplode is ok as well.

Cellmass is ok, there are alot better powders on the marketin IMO, chek out the site, ON Nutrition Whey powder is a good cheap powder

I have to agree you don't need much. I was living with a person who was training to be a wrestler, but very conscious about doing it safely. All he did was eat a ton of protein and use Creatine powder/drinks as well.

He had a strict diet and exercise regimen. He lived with me for about 8 months, but you could tell a MAJOR difference by the end.

Stay away from too much sugar and carbs. Fat shouldn't make you fat, but it will drain your energy.

He ate plain chicken breast and plain rice with some veggies 6 out of 7 nights. Just clean, unsauced, unseasoned foods. He'd leave one night a week to junk it up with pizza and chips and pop and whatever he wanted.

And extra protein and Creatine in the forms of powders and drinks. And of course, regular vitamin supps.

Actually I'd beg to differ that you don't need "much." From my experience, I think the difference is significant.

Aside from eating right (lots of protein, cut down on "fast" sugar, "slow" sugar (eg banana) is OK, I take:

Protein shakes
Glutamine
Arginine
Creatine
BCAA (branched chain amino acids)
L-Carnitine (helps burn fat)
Casein (before sleep, protects muscle)

^^^ Ahhh I did forget about Glutamine.

The others I have not really heard about. Though as I posted, my story is more second hand. I couldn't really argue with my roommates success though... wow.

This is actually banned in Canada. I've brought it over the border many times, but there was one occasion where CBSA confiscated it.

Its proteins, amino acids, pretty much. No steroids or anything like that.

I am surprised Carnitine is banned in Canada, because as allmighty wikipedia says:

In living cells, it (carnitine) is required for the transport of fatty acids from the cytosol into the mitochondria during the breakdown of lipids (or fats) for the generation of metabolic energy. It is often sold as a nutritional supplement

...

The highest concentrations of carnitine are found in red meat and dairy products. Other natural sources of carnitine include nuts and seeds

Can't beat 5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
