Default Am I the only idiot here who can't make use of the search function?

I don't try to use it much because I have been unsuccessful in the past, but I had occasion to use it just now and again I'm stumped. Here's what happens....

I put in my search term... bud light lime and specify the OT forum. The response I get is that my search term (Bud) is under the specified # of words (4).

HUH??

under the specified # of letters actually, the fewer letters you allow the bigger the search indexes become and the more resources a search will take.

In that case, if you search for "bud* light lime", adding the asterisk, it should work. Using a * or ? to bring the search term up to 4 characters.

EDIT: And you're not alone, I had no idea that this existed either until recently when someone pointed it out to me.

Thanks photon, that worked. So basically, if I have more than one word in my search term I need the asterisk or is it just necessary for short words?

Any word that you search for has to have more than 3 letters...

So, searching for "red car" would not work, as both are 3 letter words. I'd have to search for "red? car?" (with the '?' being a wildcard for one letter, which could then find red card too) or "red* car*" (with the '*' being a wildcard for any number of letters)
