Default Bullrun - Hot cars & celebrities

The 2008 Bullrun started this morning in Calgary.

In short, it's a race/rally with a 20 000$ entry fee (so I heard) where the drivers know only their starting place, the final destination, and they learn their stops as they go. For more info go to www.bullrun.com. It's being filmed by Spike and they will later air a show on it.

So this morning along 8th ave there were Porsches, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, lots of Ferraris, rich drivers.... any one else head down?

I have more pics if people want

I didn't head down, but saw the white porsche (in your picks), a black porsche turbo, and a ford gt drive by my work yesterday all decked out with the bull run decals. It was sweet.

Do you know if it is the same format as spike had with goldberg? I loved that show.

Hah, yea, I can just imagine, if I hadn't known about it and suddenly there's a bunch of sports cars driving around... I would have been like "WDF?" but also "Awesooome..."

And since I've never seen Goldberg, I can't tell you, sorry! Not that I know the format they do Bullrun anyway, haha.

How does this thing work? Do they close down roads for it? Is is speeding tickets and the law be damned?

As far as roads closing down, all I could tell was 8th ave was all blocked up with the cars before they went, and then as it started, they blocked the one road for the cars to drive through, other than that, I don't know.

And there have been racers arrested in the past. You won't win if you go the speed limit, but if cops catch ya, there's no special treatment.

I just checked the site.
This is the bullrun live event, not the reality show.

The format of bullrun is people drive their cars from point A to point B, no GPS, cell phones, laptops etc are allowed. You are awarded points for the time it takes you get from point A to point B. Speeding is against the rules, but as far as I can tell, they do not monitor your vehicles speed. If you get a ticket, you get points taken away. If you get arrested, you are out of the race.

I am not sure if the real bull run has prizes or anything. I am sure it does though. Basically you just drive (this year) from calgary to phoenix over a 7 day period. Drive during the day, party at night.

Looks like they haven't started casting for bull run 2 (reality) tv show yet, so it could be a while before it's back on spike.

so is it a reincarnation of the Cannonball Run? guess that's why the route isn't published, would make it a little too easy for the cops to nab them all

Crap ... I would have loved to have known about this. I would have headed down there forsure. I guess that explains why I saw three or four pretty incredible cars yesterday.

Keep the pics coming if you have more!

Speeding is definitely the norm. As evidenced by the numerous cars going the other way as I was heading to Okotoks from Black Diamond.

They've also been making a few Shelby Cobras, I saw a couple the other day when I was getting my car serviced at the dealership. Unbelievably sweet cars and pricey, $65K. This ain't one of them though.

7 days from Calgary to Phoenix and it's a race? I think I could make that trip 3 and a half times in 7 days.

I hate to be "that guy", but I really don't see this as a particularly safe or worthwhile reality tv event. I'm all for doing ######ed things that could kill you for the enjoyment of television audiences, but how can they not be putting everybody on the road in danger?

This part isn't on tv. This is just a drive from calgary to phoenix.
The reality tv show comes after (only have done one season so far).

In the reality tv series, there are 12 or so cars (2 people per car), they drive from point a to point b, they have a few routes they can take. There also "time bonuses" that they can pick up along the way.
At the end of the race, they have a challenge for teams, in a closed off area, where the crazy stuff happens.

Keep in mind, they know they are on public roads for the race part. There are also heavy penalties for people who are caught speeding. If you get arrested, you are disqualified from the race.

The challenges at the end of the day, and the time bonuses are the best way to win the event. So essentially, if you drive sanely, pick up some bonuses, and do well in the challenges, you should win the event.
