I was told today that Microsoft is comming out with another Xbox called the Xenon, and that the Xbox will no longer be made kind of what Sony did with their first Playstations, anyone else hearing this?

XBox2, PS3, and a new Nintendo system are all in the works. Expect them all to be released sometime in 2006... possibly for Christmas 2005 if one of them wants to lessen their product to get a jump on the competition.

Dont know about Xbox's being discontinued but the Xbox 2 is coming out. Microsoft is suppose to be showing it off at E3 this year. I thought about getting an Xbox or PS2 at the beginning of the year but found out that Xbox 2 might be out this fall so I'm waiting for it.

Xenon (and Xbox Next) is the codename for Xbox2 and there have been reports of as many as three different version of the next generation Xbox starting with a base model, then higher models with network devices and wireless functionality

Xbox 360 is one rumored name of the new console. Why not Xbox 2? Some marketing types are worried that it would appear "less" than the PS3. Which it probably will be, PS3 is rumored to clobber the Xbox 2 - the extra year of development will help.

Don't forget the Nintendo Revolution.
Why can't Nintendo just get their act together?

I read on gamespot that x boxs are already done production and will no longer be made. I also read that microsoft will try to use halo 3 to crush the ps3 like sony tried to do with xbox when it first game out with some sort of promotion.

I don't follow it all that much but everything I've read over the past couple of years about PS3 and Xbox2 has the rumours saying they have pretty much identical power. More than likely the difference between the two will end up being hardware quality, included perks and quality of the add ons such as on-line play etc etc etc.

I think nintendo is due for somthing good. There like that asian mafia guy on the simpsons, where you just know hes gonna do somthing. Even though the PSP can do alot more then the nintendo DS, its still a really cool handheld.

The Xbox2/Xenon/Xbox360 will be released before the PS3 which has industry insiders worried about Sony's strategy. Meanwhile Sony doesn't want to repeat the last cycle where the Xbox gained ground b/c of the superior hardware in the Xbox.
I am willing to bet that if Xbox2 does come out first as speculated - it will gain HUGE ground, as I would be hard pressed not to buy it just because it is out there. Regardless of which machine is more powerful (which should be the PS3 if they take the extra year), the power of these systems are not evident until later generation titles come along -> meanwhile consumers will buy on hoopla, and Microsoft is good at hoopla.
(btw, I am a PS2 guy)

It will be interesting to see how "hack proof" these new consoles are. Like the IBM PC vs. Mac debate, I think the Xbox has surged in popularity lately due to the "hackability" of it. A complete HTPC, streaming audio & video, PC based parts, monster hard drives, and hard disk based games have all made the Xbox the star in many a geek's heart.
If the next gen consoles are ridiculous to hack (be it games or functionality) will they take flight? After seeing the crazy things they do, my faith is with the hackers....

Gamespy did a write up of the next xbox and you can read about it here:
Story 1
Story 2
Story 3
It looks to be good. I guess E3 will answer all the question but this will be out before X-Mas.
