Hey, you might call him the most embarassing player in the world. FIFA will likely call him the best player in the world by years end.

Pirlo is class and I think he will be missed. I am a fan of his.

I forgot about Gomez, he has been terrible as well.

Never said he couldn't be both. Look at the Brazilian Ronaldo.

Hey wait a minute maybe it's just a Ronaldo thing.

Okay, making fun of Christiano is all well and good, but the real Ronaldo is the best player since Pele, and was the farthest thing from a diver.

As for the Italians, I think the fast and talented Spanish forwards are going to tear the ancient and slothful Italian defence to shreds.

perhaps i am mistaken as it is a hazy memory but is there not a clip of Ronaldo ready to take a corner when the opposing teams player kicked him the ball, it proceeded to hit (brazil) Ronaldo in the thigh and about 3 seconds later he hit the ground like a sack of bricks and grabbed his face and rolled around like he'd been shot in the face.

Like i said I am way less than 100% sure but wasn't that Ronaldo? Might not have even been Brazil for all i know but for some reason I thought it was Ronaldo.

That was Rivaldo, totally different player. Another guy with all the skill and talent in the world but a terrible attitude.

Where in Europe?

No Europeans I have ever talked to have said that it was anything like this. It is also a reason the Italians and Brazilians are so reviled.

I have a Portuguese and a French friend who are born and raised.(and lots of Italian family who are still in Chieti) Both scoff at the idea that diving in dishonorable. They have told me exactly that simulation is an art and a skill just like anything else. They believe soccer players are just as manly and hororable than any NHLer that you can name.

By the way you better add about 10 countries to your list of teams that dive a lot. Argentina, France, Croatia, Spain, Portugal etc.

Now as for who is the worst is up for debate.

And personally despite my Italian bias i think most of the revilers hate us and Brazil (and France for that matter) because we are always good. between France, Italy and Brazil we have the last 4 world cups and 1 Euro, thats not including numerous 2nd place finished including Italy in 94 WC and Euro 2000, Brazil in 98, France in 06. I may even be missing some.

It was you that brought up the other Ronaldo hehehe
But to the other poster. Brazil definitely don't dive (other than that unfortunate incident) and they are the World's favorite team.

Man oh man talk about a homer.

If Ronaldo goes to Real Madrid his career will take a hit just like all the others that go there and I doubt Fifa will have him as No.1, even though he certainly has the potential and talent to be that good.

Oh and Germany will pwn Portugal Thursday

Oh please man, Ronaldo was a fat tub of lard. Best since Pele?? That made me laugh. There was a guy named Maradona who in his prime before he got all fat and coked up was the cream of the crop. Hell, I'll even take Zidane over fat Ronaldo.

Best since Pele....hahahah.....what a joke.

I wish I knew you personally so I can put money on both those situations.

Oh and should Ronaldo go to Real, he'll be fine, he'll still win the player of the year, just like the previous Portugal legend did not too long ago.

How did the Dutch do the honorable thing? They made 9 changes to their lineup. He simply didn't care one way or another, he sent out a new 11 essentially, and let them play. Luckily for Italy, Romania played like crap and got the result they deserved.

Would Italy have laid down? That's pretty biased language...they would have done the exact same thing as Croatia, Portugal and Holland... only one of those teams played bad enough to be outclassed by an inferior opponent. The other two won with reserves... and there's no reason a healthy Italy wouldn't have done the same. Winners don't want to lose. Ever.

As well... how is it not in Holland's interest to have Italy go through? They can beat Italy. As well, they want a team that can wear Spain down so they can beat them. Romania wasn't wearing down anything. Italy, even without Pirlo, can give Spain a good fight (probably lose, but still).

Some of this blind Italy hate is wearing a little thin...True, they are having a bad tournament, they play a tactical style of football, and they are at a time of transition... and yes, they dive. But name me one team in soccer (or hockey) that has never embellished a thing.

Everyone exagerates their fouls, you can't single out any one team with any veracity, as I showed pretty clearly a couple pages back. The African nations are probably the worst divers out there at the moment, but you wouldn't think that unless you actually watched them play.

Italy plays essentially the soccer equivalent of the Flames... frankly, I'm surprised so many Flames fans attack them on their playing style.

As for Italy losing Pirlo... it hurts, but he's not been the typical Pirlo, and I think he can be replaced... De Rossi is the new workhorse for Italy, and its time they embrace their future rather than cling to their past. Some combination of De Rossi, Perrotta, Camoranesi (not playing as a glorified forward) and Aquilani should be good enough to take on Spain. But that's not the problem...

My issue is with Toni... how many perfect opportunities can you screw up before your ass is nailed to the bench? Its too bad Amauri's papers didn't clear in time, or if Borriello didn't sleep with Donadoni's daughter (hell, the guy had to do something to be the only outfielder to not see any action). Toni = Overrated. That will be their backbreaker.

Chiellini and Grosso stabilized the defense, De Rossi stabilized the midfield. No one stepped in to save the forwards because Donadoni plays a system that none of Italy's forwards are compatible with except Toni, who is cold right now.

On a Ronaldo note... his career will take a hit at Real Madrid... he'll still be a megastar, but that team is cancerous... ask Beckham, Owen, Cassano, Carlos, Hierro...

Wow. You clearly started following soccer, what? Last year?

You have to lay off the C. Ronaldo drumbeat....., do you even know any other players? I'm surprised you can even spell Zidane.

Ronaldo (Brazilian) was great in his prime. He was pimped up a bit when he first moved over but he was a good player. Aboslutely no where near Pele though. Pele was everything, Ronaldo was a whiny bitch.

And as much as a girl as Christiano Ronaldo is I think you gotta give it to him. He's a wonder. FIFA player of the year for sure.
