I got mine done in Vancouver, there was no wait period, I made an appointment for the following day when I went in to book it.

This the one that I got from "To the Point" on Macleod by Luke. (It's a memorial tattoo for my 2 grandfathers who were veterans, the poppies and the 2 butterflies are my grandmothers...There were 3 steps/visits:
-Drop off drawing and ideas.
-Come into see finished sketch
-the actual tattoo
It took me 2 weeks and was $160 (the money didn't bother me, because I used my inheritance from my grandpa)
The only problem was: I think I had a reaction to the red ink or my ankle is very sensitive because my ankle swelled quite a bit... All in all: worth it.
You might want to check out Thresh hold (sp?) tattoo's website. It looks like do wicked colour tats.
The other 2 tattoos I got were done in Nanaimo. And I don't know anyone in their right mind that would want to go there

Well if you're smart you'll do a tattoo in three steps rather then just walk in and get it done.

It does look like you have red issues, as the red in your poppies isn't that red

I just got my latest tattoo done by Luke a couple weeks ago. He was a good guy and I'll be going back to him later to get the rest of it done once I draw up the design for the boarder/band that I want.

My other two I had done at Smiling Buddah. Those were 5 and 10 years ago.

I'll post pics later when I get home from work.

I didn't say I had an issue with having to go back 3 times... (It should be done this way to give people a "cooling-off" period to make sure customers are getting something that they will regret later)I was just outling the procedure so you had an idea of how things were done at this particular location and expected wait time.

The picture isn't very good: there are 2 colours in the poppies, with red being closer to the centre...

Oh it's not an issue. Thats how my guy did it, so I figured it was a pretty standard practice. I'm just wanting to find someone who's a good artist and can do bright colors. Since I'm nice and pasty white, I take color really well and I want to make sure the artist uses the brightest colors available

Here's the one on my calf. I had it done in 1997 and it was my last one. This was done professionally in Lethbridge... I wish I could remember the name of the place. It still looks pretty good, for being 11 years old.

Wow... I think I should try to get a tan this summer...

I thought the colour and detail in some of his examples were great. But other than looking on the website, I couldn't tell you much.

I always laugh at the bad ones... what were they thinking?:

There is a great place in Miami that does it........sorry I really like that show though

I am wanting to get a tattoo as well. I have done that test where you put a picture up of that tattoo you want so you have to see it everyday and after 6 months you still like it then you should get it. Well it has been a year and I still love it.

So here is a question, how much do most places charge for a tattoo? I am looking at about a 6 inch circle on my back.

Depends where you go. Some charge by the hour, others may charge you for the size of the tattoo. Living Color, where I went, charged $150/ hour

Here are my three...

Metallica's star on my right arm was my first.

My family crest on my left arm was my second.

And my Celtic Tree of Life on my right calf was my latest.

I want to get a knotwork border done around the tree and turn it into a band that goes around the leg.

Am I the only one here who wonders why you folks would actually want to put that stuff on your body? I don't understand it.

Don't look now, but I think there are some kids on your lawn that need to be yelled at.

Nanaimo is OK to retire in, but I wouldn't want to raise any kids there (after my childhood... shudder...)
Gypsy Pete (may he RIP, died from Cancer earlier this year...)did my original 2 (walk in off the streets when I was 17) and they were not very good (the reason why I'm a firm believer in a waiting period and research in my old age)
Sandra's Ink in Nanimo touched one up (the symbol for the Nanaimo Riptides Swim team on my calf) and covered up a crappy dolphin with one that looks realistic, not like a 6 year old did it...
Did you go to Black and Blue?

I agree with you. Another thing I don't understand is women doing the whole fake and bake thing. If you start having a resemblance to a carrot you've gone to far...
