Default US Open of Golf at Torrey Pines

Starts today at Torry Pines.

Does Hockey hater Tiger Woods fresh off his knee surgery win the tourney, or is it another 2nd place finish for him. Will Trevor Immelman win the second leg of the grand slam. Will Stephen Ames be in contention after 54 holes and than have another lousy Sunday. And the perennial US open question....will anyone be able to stay under par?

I think of all the majors this is the hardest challenge, and it's not as fun to watch because you don't see very many great shots. It looks like me trying to play a regular golf course at times as these guys just hope to keep the ball on the fareways and have to play not to lose it.

But I'll watch because the course management strategies that these guys are forced to use is a good lesson for an amateur hack like myself to employ. I play my best rounds when I keep the woods in the bag and play with my irons and keep the ball around the fareways and greens and away from trouble....It's amazing how if you don't make any double bogeys, find a way to scrape together 8-10 pars in a round how your usual 92-95 becomes a score in the low 80's!

Is the official leaderboard slow to update?

Tiger three jacks the 18th to finish 1 over. Mickelson didn't play well, but comes around at even par. I'd look for the afternoon scores to be up as the wind is up and the course is starting to harden up. That -3 in the club house, I think it'll be safe today.

Beautiful course and public too! Only $42 bucks to play, knowing the USGA they will be pissed that players actually shot under par today. Look for the greens to see zero water until Monday, and damn are 11, 12, and 13 nasty.

seven canadians in the field, and they're doing petty good after round 1.

Ian Leggatt +1 T19
Jon Mills +1 T19
Mike Wier +2 T31
Steven Ames +3 T49
David Hearn +5 T85
Nick Taylor +6 T100
Yohann Benson +12 T147

Weir and Ames are both +3 so far in the 2nd round...looks like the course has firmd up even more and is getting almost impossible to stop on the greens from most spots on the fairways.

Should be a good weekend.

Woods just completely obliterated the front nine (his second nine) at the Open. WOW. When he is on no one can even come close to competing.

That was one of the more special rounds you'll ever see.

Tiger leads by 1 going into tomorrow where he'll win easily.

Woods eagles the 13th and 18th holes to take the lead going into Sunday. That was SO clutch. That knee seems to really be hurting him, and it's affecting his swing. I like Westwood as well, so it should be fun to watch tomorrow, especially with this great course setup.

Unreal finish by Tiger!

One of the best finishes down the stretch that i have ever seen.

The only question remains is how will his knee hold out tomorrow. They interviewed him after his round and he did say it was getting worse.

Poor Rocco to have to listen to the roars on the last few holes as he waiting to hit his second shot.

Tiger and Westwood as the final pairing. Should be a dandy finish on fathers day!

Anyways... what an exciting finish to the 3rd round! I'm excited to see how this all plays out tomorrow. Hoping Tiger's knee holds out...

So I'm wrong. I never ever thought he'd lead after 54-holes in any major this year. But he played amazingly on the back 9 and I enjoyed watching him this evening which is rare.

Nice of you to go to 2 different forums to dig out my inaccuracies.

His wonky left knee might have a say in tommorows round. I'm guessing if this wasn't the Open he would have passed on this tournament and continued his rehab.

Anyway the grimmacing look on his face as he hit that approach shot to the 18th green told the whole story. Redefine his swing to take the strain off his left knee, or his chances won't be so good.

Then again he could suck in that amazing mental strength of his and win it by a few strokes.

This is what I think is more likely. There's really nobody good around him and the Final Round is always brutal. Westwood? Rocco? meh...

Ogilvy might be the only challenger and he's too far back.

Westwood was looking good down the stretch. He's also a very good Eurpean player.

Another fly in the ointment is the massive crowds that follow Tiger from hole to hole. Other players that have been paired with him often commented how stressful and intimidating it can be.

Then there's Tigers record on the final day of a major tournament when tied or leading. In fact Bob May is the only golfer to come close to beating Tiger by taking him to a playoff in the 2000 PGA Championship.

Still it should be an exciting final round.

Just got home from my own round and I'm glad I PVR'd that. Two pretty amazing putts for Eagle and the one hopper off the stick on 17 for a birdie when it looked like a bogey. Thats 3 shots in one round that most of us will never make in our entire lives (I fricken 3 jacked one after I reached a par 5 in two today! the humanity). He really struggled trying to hit that quick draw today, but the Power fade was money. Should be an interesting finish tomorrow. Not only does he have to take that many swings, but he's gotta walk a fair distance too, and he was struggling to get to the end today.

It is really a pleasure to watch Tiger play. I hope he pulls off some more amazing shots today and walks/limps away with the trophy.

Tiger back to even par with Rocco leading at 2 under.

Tiger takes a one stroke lead on the par 3 - 11th hole with a birdie putt!

Westwood pars to stay one behind.

Go Tiger!
