Am I missing something here? So there's two choices, you can either be red or blue, and red won 55% of the time. Does this seem like a very uncompelling stat to anyone else? I don't brag that I win 55% of the time in NHL '08, because I'm losing 45% of the time.
The red team is winning just slightly more than they are losing. Also, wouldn't this "study" have more to do with which guys are blue and which are red? Wouldn't this study just show that there were a few better players wearing red than blue? I'm totally lost on this?....and I would like to be paid to do this kind of "research".

The difference here though is that which team you're on, on the surface appears to be a randon event, if you flipped a coin 10000 times and you got 5500 heads and only 4500 tails would you not be interested?? I would suggest your NHL 08' is not very random at all thus bragging about a 55% win percentage isnt a very valid comparison.
On the surface this looks like frivelous research, but if they can figure out why, it might reveal something important or something that could benefit our society in the future.

See that's the part I missed then, I assumed, like a lot of games, that you picked your side, but then again, I don't really play those kinds of games.

Although when you read this paragragh, it looks like you do choose your side...
As is the case with most team-based online shooting games, players of Unreal Tournament can choose to be on either the red team or the blue team, and their avatars wear those colors. But that choice is not as neutral as it seems: 55 percent of the time, the red team won, according to the study published this week in the journal Cyberpsychology & Behavior

That's probably just poor writing and/or reporting. I haven't played any of the UT games since the original '99 version, but most online shooters I've played, including UT, Team Fortress 2, etc., automatically assign you to whichever team has fewer players when you join the server, so it is more or less random.
