Cmon Rogers, at least tell us what you're planning so we can bend over in advance.

That's the biggest thing for me, It was possible to bring an iphone to Canada before Rogers got it, it's just really expensive. I don't care that it's now officially available in Canada, I just care about the monthly rates. Rogers already knows what they are going to charge, so it worries me that they haven't announced it yet.

I am looking at either an iPhone or a Blackbery. If Rogers who I am currently with has decent plans for the iPhone I might go that direction, if not it's off to Telus I go.

I've been with Telus, Bell, and Rogers and I do "tech support" for people on Telus and Bell all the time. I'm currently with Rogers and am staying.

Truth be told, Telus, Bell, and Rogers are pretty much the worst companies on earth. However, Rogers is the best of the worst because it is GSM.

All of them will ignore you and screw you to no end. However, GSM puts Rogers over the top in my opinion. And the iPhone helps too...

If you want Telus, I've got a 3 month old Berry Pearl, on contract that you could take over... for cheap cheap.

Data plans possibly announced tomorrow...

http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1383096

Quote:
$30 for 300 megs
$60 for 1 gig
$100 for 6 gigs

Flex plans will be available on ALL devices.

Existing customers will be able to take advantage.
Not official yet, take it as such.

Edit: Pushed back to the 20th now. I don't know who this guy is, but we'll see I guess. Also, these may not even be the iPhone plans... just general data plans. Says it includes BB though, if true that's crazy nice.

Hm, not what I was hoping for ($30 for 1GB) but still a heck of a lot better than what we've got.

It's high enough though that people that are after data and the device is secondary won't jump away from Bell's $30 unlimited or the other restricted unlimited plans ($15 one or whatever).

But 300MB should probably be enough for most average users.

I bet it wouldn't be enough for most average CP users. If you're browsing this site on the train on your mint iPhone, it won't take long (especially if you're oogling the hotties thread) to eat up that 300MB.

Yes. Considering I started out paying $25 for 1MB of BB data, and then was paying $45 for 4MB of BB data (with voice)...

$30 for 300MB of BB data would be pretty darn sweet.

Well.. how much time do you actually need to spend on this site when you're away from a computer?

Since May 8th I've sent 21MB of data and received 98MB. I check the site from time to time when I'm away from a computer, but I don't need to be on here 24/7.

Heh true, though if you stay out of the hotties thread I think each page is worth maybe 100KB assuming images are cached, that's 3000 page views.

When I upgrade the forum software to the next version I want to put in a mobile and iphone theme as well, I've seen some ones you just plug in and they work.

They're not talking about BB data though (I don't think). I'm of the understanding that the providers can discriminate between BB and iPhone data and charge accordingly. Can anyone confirm?

That's like asking a smoker how much they actually NEED to smoke.

Those plans are nice but why cant Rogers do the same as Bell? Unlimited. It pisses me off and will be the number one road block of me getting this phone, although I really really want it.

Personally, I think Rogers is taking the gamble that there will be tremendous demand for the iPhone in Canada when it launches. People will pony up to buy the thing and pay whatever they have to to enjoy the service. Perhaps when the lust for the iPhone dies down and more rational thought prevails, consumers will realize they're getting a raw deal on data rates and prices will start to come down. Rogers will charge as much as it can get away with.

Yep, like anything else, the early-adopters will overpay and everyone else will get in when it comes down.

Unlike everything else, however, the iPhone is enough to make most everyone an early-adopter.

Anyone have any experience canceling a contract?

I will have 4 months left on my 3 year with Bell.
