I'm still in awe that people can buy 100 boxes of cereal to get their 20 airmile bonus. What loyalty!

sometimes they have absolutely ridiculous specials on though where the value of the airmiles i actually greater then the cost of the products. I've heard of people going in and buying 20 loafs of bread for like 20 bucks and giving them to the food bank and getting 40$ worth of airmiles from it.

A heads up for those that have the AM/Westjet BMO mastercard. They are no longer offering 50% off westjet airmiles and switching to 20% all airlines.
If you want to get the 50% off westjet, book by July.

I <3 BBQ sauce. I am not a huge Ketchup fan so I use BBQ in its place for the most part.
I also do a lot of marinading.

And to think, you only had to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to get that iPod for free

I've done that flight quite a few times...those air currents can sometimes cause quite the roller coaster ride flying into or out of the 'Gar, eh?

If it's stuff you would have bought anyway, then the ipod would be "free" I guess.
The Safeway near us had airmiles coupons in their flyer last year for a bunch of bonus airmiles. We bought $250 worth of groceries and came away with over 800 airmiles. That would get you over $100 in giftcards from Rona or HBC or get you close to a flight within Western Canada / US.

The way I see it is that I spent money on stuff I needed (food, gas, etc). I consider it free because if I didn't have an airmiles card I never would have gotten the Itouch. So yeah I still consider it for free.

Sorry, can you explain?
What do you mean by "50% off Westjet"?

If you have a BMO Westjet Mastercard and you book a westjet flight with airmiles, it takes you 50% the airmiles to book that ticket.
IE it take 3000 airmiles to get to T.O. but because I have the BMO WJ Mastercard it only costs me 1500 airmiles.
Edit: Sorry, this is for gold cards. I forgot there are other versions.

Damn, I had no idea. I was planning a trip to LA, PHX and SF in October. I'm definietly going to use my airmiles now and book before the end of July. Thanks for the heads up.
And thankfully the 2008-2009 NHL sched will be released in mid July.

It still isn't free, keep in mind that you are trading your personal info to them in exchange for airmiles.. they can track what you buy, where you buy it, etc in an effort to better market to you. Plus you're shopping at airmiles enabled services.
Still free as in no extra money, but not without a cost.
