Seeing Calgary and Kingston at the top of the list, I wonder if it's just a matter of having too many over stressed, heavily drinking, transient youth in the Community.

Just a guess.

I once had a native lady complain to me (a white person) about my co-worker being racist against her. The funny thing is that my co-worker, is native

Reading peoples stories Im reminded of when I used to work in a convenience store late nights on the weekend. Some people would get offended over the smallest things like when I had to run a 50 or 100 dollar bill through a money scanner. It was part of the job with any big bill especially late night. One guy who's $100 simply would not pass though the scanner as good was offended saying if he was a white guy in suit I wouldn't be harassing him. I was even decent enough to give him the bill back rather then keep it and call the cops as it was very hard to determine whether it was real or not. My reply: Its not my fault that you don't like white people, same rules apply to all as far as Im concerned. He took the $100 and drove off without paying for a full tank of gas which of course prompted me to call the police....

MOD EDIT: I understand why you posted those - but please don't. We don't want that type of thing here at all even as an example of what happens elsewhere

Understood.

What exactly does the n-word (don't know if I can say it on here) mean?

And what does "cracker" mean? I've been called a cracker...

I went to a bar called "Crackers" once. I thought it was hilarious, everyone was white and singing Karoake....it just seemed fitting to me.

"Cracker" is a term referring to the slave master cracking the whip. I used to think people were saying I was stale, dry, and good with soup.

We still have the rampant racism toward visible minorities in Calgary's bar/club scene.

It seems to me the most vocal of the "oppressed" groups seem to walk around with their head in the oppressed cloud anyway. At that point being shorted change in the line at Safeway could become a hate crime.

Last night I had the worst cabbie ever who nearly killed us both because he was on his cell-phone. I made him pull over somewhere on 17th ave, got out, and proceeded to ream this guy up and down.

He gets out of his car and starts screaming that I called him a nig***r and that I was a racist piece of s*** and blah blah blah.

Except I fired back that I had in fact, not once in his entire reaming, make anything even remotely close to a racial remark, and the patio at the Ship and Anchor wholeheartedly agreed. A still paid for the cab and he drove off with this tail between his legs.

I've seen gay couples here holding hands kissing in public, while I don't think I ever saw that in Calgary.
I see it all the time. Just go down 17th on a Saturday afternoon. I also see it in the malls, between girls mostly, but a few weeks ago I saw 2 young guys practically making out on a bench in Chinook. You do see it alot more in Vancouver though. They even fly rainbow flags in the yard there.

A couple of years ago I was in Deerfoot Mall, and a native lady went to get one of those baby cars that the kids sit in. The woman told her that her child was too big for it (and she was). So the native lady and her Mom say: well we have a baby in the car! we are going to get her. So she says to the lady that she'll have to go get the child first. (and why is this supposed baby in the car in a parking lot alone?) Anyway, the native lady starts screaming and swearing at this very nice lady working at the booth, telling her that the only reason she won't give her a cart is because she's not white!!!!! Finally a security dude comes along and the woman starts screaming RACISM! RACISM! Security dude says..his exact words: Don't pull the race card on me lady! Get out of the mall right now! She swore all the way out. Just my example of how some acts of racism that are reported could be false.

Something like that happened to me before. Back when I was in high school I worked a gas station with both full-serve and self-serve pumps. It was really busy in the full-serve section so I was busy filling cars. Then a native guy pulled into the self-serve area and sat there for a few minutes while I was helping people in the full-serve area. He then got out of his car and started yelling at me... "It's because we're Indians, isn't it?" I was too shocked to think of anything to say back and he just hopped in his car and sped away.

Ugly and Fat does not constitute a race. If it did we would have some serious problems.
