Seemed like the M.O. during the sponsorship scandal.

Not guilty until proven innocent, but I don't think that the case should have to have someone coming forward who says that they would finance the deal to be proven either.
If the guys daughter claims its true, the wife claims its true then who will you believe? A political party with a vested interest or the dead mans family?

I can't believe that you guys (in general) expect someone to just hold a presser one day and admit to criminal acts. That is just not going to happen, and maybe moreso because we are dealing with politicians!

I suppose that alternative does exist, but it seems HIGHLY unlikely after an RCMP investigation revealed absolutely nothing of any significance that would merit any sort of criminal charges.

This sounds just like Orange Julius guy....
Just because no one has come forward to say that Dion molested their dog last summer doesn't mean it didn't happen. So when did Dion stop beating his wife?
This is going to blow up in the Liberals faces. The fact that three experts have now said the tape was doctored, and the Liberals have said "we are going to continue using it until a judge tells us we can't" speaks volumes to their motives, and morals.

Bump to an old thread - finally in the courts.
Quote:
OTTAWA -- Prime Minister Stephen Harper has testified that he personally authorized an offer made to late MP Chuck Cadman in 2005 in exchange for his help defeating the Liberal government.
But he maintained he knew nothing about an alleged offer of a $1 million life insurance policy to get Cadman's vote, saying he only approved an offer of campaign financial support in the event of an election.

The offering of campaign support is something that all parties do when they try to convince a candidate to cross the floor or vote for a motion. I still have my doubts about the insurance policy because there is no company in the world that is going to insure someone with Cadman's conditions.
Harper offering campaign dollars is hardly corrupt.

The funny thing is when the liberals bribed Stronach there was no mention of it. The conservatives bribe someone and it's front page news that won't go away.

So basically, Harper testified to saying what he has always maintained he said, and what the famous "tape" says that he said, none of which was illegal or in any way "a bribe".
Got it.
Liberals are going to look like idiots over this one.

I still suspect that there was some shady dealings. I see no reason why Chuck Cadman's family would lie, especially considering that Donna Cadman is a Conservative herself.
However, if they can't prove it, they need to drop it. It's not like things like this don't happen all the time in politics, business, whatever. If the Liberals keep drawing this out, it's just going to look like a partisan witch hunt, which is exactly what used to bug me about the PCs.
