Those drying-off-the-pet-in-the-microwave stories are urban legend. All the documented cases of microwaving animals (unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened) have been deliberate acts of cruelty.

Good, but it would be better if they were strapped to a table and coated with Tuna, then you release lions or tigers or panthers (oh my) into the enclosure.

BTW - I read that the police have been keeping busy tracking down people who have issued death threats against the boys and they have caught at least one person who illegally revealed the boys names online:

Did you read about the mom of one of the teens charges who says her kid is a good kid and that he is also distraught over the death of the cat. She says he was there but didnt know that the cat was going to be killed and didnt see when the other kid initially put it in the microwave.

Way to go mom! So youre kid is a good kid... he only breaks into homes and hangs around with cat killers instead of being a cat killer himself.

Read that. See if you are of the same opinion then.

In the New World Order of the Citizen Journalist, it's an interesting question as to whether or not a Joe Schmo putting the names on a website is actually doing something illegal, or could be held to the standard of a professional news organization.

Certainly, a real-life journalist doing that in a newspaper or on a legitimite news website would be cooked by the judge for doing it . . . . . but does that or should that test actually apply to the public at large offering the same utterances?

Two 17-year-old boys have pleaded guilty to breaking into a home in central Alberta and microwaving a cat to death.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0..._cat_microwave

Atleast they pled guilty and admitted to what they did. Sick kids.

If I were a betting man, I would guess that they get a small fine and 1 year probation.

I wouldn't want them anywhere near an animal shelter. There should be some sort of restraining order where they can't be within a certain distance of pets.

I think a good punishment would be to make them work for the city and clean up road-kill for the summer.

Back in the day my sister had some real shady friends, and she used to have the occassional shaker over at our place. We have two cats and I legitimately used to be concerned that one of those dirtbags would pull a stunt like that, I even played the scenario out in my head. If I found my cat in the microwave I'd seriously be in jail right now for what I'd have done to him.

I'd give those kids each 30 seconds on High.

Once a month.

Pretty disturbing stuff. The latest article in post 49 (or somewhere thereabout) describes the crime scene. These kids scrawled things like "you had a nice cat" and "look in the microwave" on the wall.

It goes on to say that the family of the one kid had to move out of town because the kid was getting harassed at school and around town.

My mean side thinks that these kids' justice should include eye-for-eye type punishment. My not so mean side tells me that none of them will ever lead a normal life because they'll always live in fear that their new girlfriend or friend will find out about their pasts.

They've effectively ruined their lives by doing this. What they did is so f****d up that they'll never be able to distance themselves from it. They've already punished themselves. What was supposed to be a stupid, childish B&E will now haunt them forever and permanently taint their character to everyone they knew, know and will ever meet.

I'd say that the worst punishment they could get is having their names publicized.
