With the third round pick FooFighter15 is pleased to select none other then his idol Dave Grohl at drums.

"Once Danny Carey was taken it was an easy choice." FF15 went on to say "I mean he's who I wanted all along. I figured most people don't think of him as a drummer anymore so he would still be available at this point, but I never thought Carey would be so that's what made it so tough. But fortunately now that my main picks have been taken, and I got who I wanted, the rest of my band will be full of surprises for others, but exactly who I wanted all along."

Quote:
Rarely in the history of rock has a musician switched bands and instruments simultaneously with such a high degree of success as Dave Grohl.
Born on January 14, 1969, Grohl grew up in Washington, D.C., teaching himself to play drums and guitar. While still a teenager, he joined his first real band, independent D.C. punkers Scream, and toured the world as their drummer. After Scream broke up in the late '80s, Grohl relocated to Seattle and tried out for a little-known band who had a drum vacancy - Nirvana.

With the 45th pick, 604flames selects Jeff Beck in the guitar category.

Quote:
One of the most influential lead guitarists in rock, Jeff Beck has helped shape blues rock, psychedelia, and heavy metal. Beck's groups have been short-lived, and he has probably been handicapped by the fact that he doesn't sing, but his aggressive style -- encompassing screaming, bent sustained notes, distortion and feedback, and crisply articulated fast passagework -- has been more important than his material.

He established his reputation with that band, but he left in late 1966 and after a short sabbatical released a version of "Love Is Blue," played deliberately out of tune because he loathed the song. In 1967 he founded the Jeff Beck Group with Ron Wood and Rod Stewart; the band's reworkings of blues-based material laid the groundwork for '70s heavy metal. Clashing temperaments broke up the group after two acclaimed LPs and several U.S. tours. Stewart and Wood went on to join the Faces [see the Small Faces/the Faces entry], and Stewart continued to use drummer Mickey Waller on his solo albums until 1974. Beck was planning to form a band with Vanilla Fudge members Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice when he was sidelined for 18 months with a fractured skull he sustained in a car crash. (A car aficionado, Beck has been in three crashes and was once sidelined for months after getting his thumb trapped under a car.) When he recovered, Bogert and Appice were busy in Cactus, so Beck assembled a second Jeff Beck Group and put out two albums of Memphis funk laced with heavy metal. When Cactus broke up in late 1972, Beck, Bogert, and Appice returned Beck to a power trio format, but weak vocals hampered the band, and it dissolved in early 1974.

Beck then went into the first of many periods of hibernation. In 1975 he reemerged in an all-instrumental format, playing jazzy tunes. He toured as coheadliner with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and started an on-again, off-again collaboration with former Mahavishnu keyboardist Jan Hammer in 1976 with Wired (#16). During the later '70s Beck reportedly spent most of his time on his 70-acre estate outside London. He and Hammer worked together on the 1980 album There and Back, but Hammer did not join Beck for his 1980 tour, the guitarist's first in over four years. In 1981 Beck appeared at Amnesty International's Secret Policeman's Ball, and in 1985 he toured Japan. Flash, which includes Beck's sole charting single, "People Get Ready" (#48, 1985), with Rod Stewart on vocals, and the Grammy-winning "Escape," written by Hammer, peaked at #39. Four years later Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop With Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas (#49, 1989) garnered the Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Crazy Legs, an homage to Gene Vincent's Blue Caps and rockabilly guitar legend Cliff Gallup, met with mixed reviews.

With my 3rd pick in the draft, troutman's K-Tel Sound Explosion, selects in the Songwriter Category, from Liverpool, England, ELVIS COSTELLO (Declan McManus):

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:aifyxqw5ldte~T1

When Elvis Costello's first record was released in 1977, his bristling cynicism and anger linked him with the punk and new wave explosion. A cursory listen to My Aim Is True proves that the main connection that Costello had with the punks was his unbridled passion. He tore through rock's back pages taking whatever he wanted, as well as borrowing from country, Tin Pan Alley pop, reggae, and many other musical genres. Over his career, that musical eclecticism has distinguished Costello's records as much as his fiercely literate lyrics. Because he supports his lyrics with his richly diverse music, Costello is one of the most innovative, influential, and best songwriters since Bob Dylan.

http://www.rockhall.com/inductee/elv...he-attractions

Elvis Costello’s remarkable career spontaneously kicked into gear in 1976. According to a record-company bio, “An unknown and unannounced Elvis Costello walks into the offices of Stiff Records, strikes up an instant rapport with Stiff’s then-supremo Jake Riviera, and is signed immediately.” Thus began a career in song that has been almost unmatched in its reach - from furious, biting punk-era nuggets to art-minded collaborations with an opera singer and string quartet - and consistency. Costello has been called “the finest songwriter of his generation,” and he ranks among the most prolific, too.

Favorite line: She's filing her nails while they're dragging the lake

It seemed that every punk and new wave act who came out of England in the late '70s was in love with reggae, and nearly all of them had at least one token bit of bad-boy skanking in their repertoire. Elvis Costello dipped his toes into Jamaican rhythms very rarely, but he certainly knocked the ball out of the park in his first time at bat. A venomous film noir tale of infidelity, betrayal, and murder, the lyrics for "Watching the Detectives" would have sounded menacing sung to the tune of &"Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot ikini." But Costello paired it with a skeletal minor-key melody that slowly but effectively wound itself into a solid knot of fierce emotional tension, pushing the bitter lyrical atmosphere further into the darkness. And on Costello's original recording, the song's power is augmented by a brilliantly spare arrangement; the dynamic space that surrounds Andrew Bodnar's melodic bass line, Costello's slashing bursts of guitar, Steve Gulding's trash-can drums, and Steve Nieve's keyboard punctuations make it clear that less really is more in this context. Costello wouldn't cut another reggae tune for quite some time, but then again, who could blame him for not wanting the pressure of trying to top this?

With his third album, 1979's Armed Forces, Elvis Costello offered his most pungently political set of songs up to that time, but wrapped them in catchy melodies and pop-friendly production that gave Elvis the Menace a real chance at cracking the singles charts in America, something that had eluded nearly all of the would-be conquering heroes of the British new wave. In particular, "Oliver's Army" sounded like a hit waiting to happen; it had hooks Abba would envy carried by a buoyant piano line from Steve Nieve, and it boasted an almost jubilant-sounding vocal from the traditionally dour (or threatening) Costello, who even embellished himself with some tight vocal harmony overdubs. "Oliver's Army" was a 45 that radio could hardly refuse -- that is, until programmers listened closely to the words and discovered it was a bitter screed about how impressionable youth were being used as cannon fodder by Tory leaders whose political agendas had little to do with the concerns of the man on the street. That it didn't quite click in the States is not difficult to understand, though the fact that it was a hit in the U.K. is rather astonishing, given that the song's politics were far harder to ignore there than in the U.S. To promote Armed Forces in England, Costello distributed a poster with a photo of him holding a military rifle to his mouth, with the headline "Don't Go." "Oliver's Army" sounds like the sort of recruitment song Costello could have been warning youth about, with the truth of its message hidden in plain sight.

Sorry for the delay - Elvis Costello was going to be my next pick. Anway, With my 3rd round Pick - scwf's Creeping Death, selects in the guitarst category - Mark Knopfler

Quote:
Mark Knopfler is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and bandleader. His group, Dire Straits, was formed in London in 1977 and went on to become an international success after the release of its debut album in 1978. Though it began as a group with a permanent lineup led by Knopfler, in its first few years it evolved into a brand name for Knopfler with varying personnel. Starting with Local Hero in 1983, Knopfler has scored several motion pictures. He has also recorded with Chet Atkins and with the Notting Hillbillies. In 1995, Knopfler quietly laid Dire Straits to rest. He launched a full-fledged solo career with the release of Golden Heart in 1996; subsequent soundtrack efforts include 1998's Wag the Dog, 1998's Metroland, and 2002's Shot at Glory. Sailing to Philadelphia, a lush collection of folk-rock and breezy Americana that featured guest appearances by James Taylor, Van Morrison, and Squeeze leaders Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford, appeared in fall 2000, and Ragpicker's Dream followed in 2002. In 2003, on the way to rehearsals in London, Knopfler broke his collarbone, shoulder, and seven ribs in a motorcycle crash. He returned in 2004 with Shangri-La, and in 2006 he completed All the Road Running, a collaboration with Emmylou Harris recorded over the span of nearly seven years that also found life as a live CD/DVD release (Real Live Roadrunning) later that November. Kill to Get Crimson appeared in 2007 from Universal/Mercury.
Hope this works - having some laptop issues right now:

With the 3rd round Pick (48th) Hanna Sniper's EC and the G-String Band, selects in the “USA East of Mississippi” category, from Dallas, Texas, Jimmie Vaughan’s little brother, little Stevie Ray Vaughan

Hanna Notes
Stevie's death hit me hard in the 1990, I remember listening to Q107 in the wee hours of the morning when word started leaking out of the helicopter crash. The initial reports were that it was Eric Clapton that was in the helicopter, then the next report came out the EC was not in the accident but only members of his entourage. Then Finally word got out of SRV was aboard the helicopter. It was a horrible night as I couldn't sleep that night has the air waves began to flood with Stevie's music. He was a great soul and I still miss him dearly.

Quote:
With his astonishingly accomplished guitar playing, Stevie Ray Vaughan ignited the blues revival of the '80s.

Vaughan drew equally from bluesmen like Albert King, Otis Rush, and Muddy Waters and rock & roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as the stray jazz guitarist like Kenny Burrell, developing a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre. Vaughan bridged the gap between blues and rock like no other artist had since the late '60s. For the next seven years, Stevie Ray was the leading light in American blues, consistently selling out concerts while his albums regularly went gold. His tragic death in 1990 only emphasized his influence in blues and American rock & roll.

Born and raised in Dallas, Vaughan began playing guitar as a child, inspired by older brother Jimmie. When he was in junior high school, he began playing in a number of garage bands, which occasionally landed gigs in local nightclubs. By the time he was 17, he had dropped out of high school to concentrate on playing music. Vaughan's first real band was the Cobras, who played clubs and bars in Austin during the mid-'70s. Following that group's demise, he formed Triple Threat in 1975. Triple Threat also featured bassist Jackie Newhouse, drummer Chris Layton, and vocalist Lou Ann Barton. After a few years of playing Texas bars and clubs, Barton left the band in 1978. The group decided to continue performing under the name Double Trouble, which was inspired by the Otis Rush song of the same name; Vaughan became the band's lead singer.

For the next few years, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble played the Austin area, becoming one of the most popular bands in Texas. In 1982, the band played the Montreux Festival and their performance caught the attention of David Bowie and Jackson Browne. After Double Trouble's performance, Bowie asked Vaughan to play on his forthcoming album, while Browne offered the group free recording time at his Los Angeles studio, Downtown; both offers were accepted. Stevie Ray laid down the lead guitar tracks for what became Bowie's Let's Dance album in late 1982. Shortly afterward, John Hammond, Sr. landed Vaughan and Double Trouble a record contract with Epic, and the band recorded its debut album in less than a week at Downtown.

Vaughan's debut album, Texas Flood, was released in the summer of 1983, a few months after Bowie's Let's Dance appeared. On its own, Let's Dance earned Vaughan quite a bit of attention, but Texas Flood was a blockbuster blues success; receiving positive reviews in both blues and rock publications, reaching number 38 on the charts, and crossing over to album rock radio stations. Bowie offered Vaughan the lead guitarist role for his 1983 stadium tour, but he turned him down, preferring to play with Double Trouble. Vaughan and Double Trouble set off on a successful tour and quickly recorded their second album, Couldn't Stand the Weather, which was released in May of 1984. The album was more successful than its predecessor, reaching number 31 on the charts; by the end of 1985, the album went gold. Double Trouble added keyboardist Reese Wynans in 1985, before they recorded their third album, Soul to Soul. The record was released in August 1985 and was also quite successful, reaching number 34 on the charts.

Although his professional career was soaring, Vaughan was sinking deep into alcoholism and drug addiction. Despite his declining health, Vaughan continued to push himself, releasing the double live album Live Alive in October of 1986 and launching an extensive American tour in early 1987. Following the tour, Vaughan checked into a rehabilitation clinic. The guitarist's time in rehab was kept fairly quiet, and for the next year Stevie Ray and Double Trouble were fairly inactive. Vaughan performed a number of concerts in 1988, including a headlining gig at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and wrote his fourth album. The resulting record, In Step, appeared in June of 1989 and became his most successful album, peaking at number 33 on the charts, earning a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Recording, and going gold just over six months after its release.

In the spring of 1990, Stevie Ray recorded an album with his brother Jimmie, which was scheduled for release in the fall of the year. In the late summer of 1990, Vaughan and Double Trouble set out on an American headlining tour. On August 26, 1990, their East Troy, WI, gig concluded with an encore jam featuring guitarists Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, and Robert Cray. After the concert, Stevie Ray boarded a helicopter bound for Chicago. Minutes after its 12:30 a.m. takeoff, the helicopter crashed, killing Vaughan and the other four passengers. He was only 35 years old.

With our 3rd pick Hot Banana Thrust is happy to select in the category of Drummer, Terry Bozzio the debate over who is the greatest will rage on forever but Terry's work is probably one my of favorites. I had 3 Drummers in mind, Terry, Peart and you know Who. With Pert gone I couldn't take the chance on Bozzio being available by my next pick.

He made his name recording and touring with Frank Zappa (and appearing in the concert movie Baby Snakes), and then the band. After his audition for Zappa, all the drummers behind him in the line left, and he was accepted. He was particularly famous for performing Zappa's "The Black Page", a piece of music designed to be a "musician's nightmare" a page so filled with notes as to be almost black.

Terry performing Zappa's "The Black Page"

Bozzio went on to form Missing Persons with his then-wife and lead vocalist Dale Bozzio, ex-Zappa guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, ex-Zappa bassist Patrick O'Hearn and keyboard player Chuck Wild. After disbanding Missing Persons in 1986 after releasing "Color In Your Life", Terry joined up with ex-Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor for his solo band. He can be seen in a couple videos from that period. He participated in the official "founding members" Missing Persons reunion in July 2001 and has recorded a Zappa-influenced, as-yet-unreleased album, Playing in Tongues, with Warren Cuccurullo.

In summer of 2005 Bozzio filled in for Dave Lombardo in Fantômas for their European tour. Bozzio was inducted into Guitar Center's RockWalk in Hollywood on January 17, 2006 along with rock and roll icons Ronnie James Dio and Slash.

Bozzio has recently worked with the band Korn on their 8th studio album after the departure of their drummer David Silveria. He was scheduled to also play on the road with the band during the Family Values Tour, but he left the group and was replaced by Joey Jordison of Slipknot.

Bozzio with Korn
on their 8th studio album

Like Hall of Fame drummer Gary Chester, Bozzio is noted for creating the melodic ostinato for the drum set. In most of Bozzio’s works, the ostinato is played using various bass drum and hi-hat permutations while he solos against these rhythms using his hands. Sometimes (often in the same composition) the opposite is true, where he will hold an ostinato pattern with his hands and solo with his feet. Like Chester, Bozzio developed the application for the melodic ostinato for drum set when he noticed how a pianist would solo or play counter rhythms against the ostinato or pedal point. He then applied this concept to the drum set.

Bozzio is also noted for creating orchestral compositions on the drum set by playing polyrhythms and metric modulations while utilizing his large custom kit (sometimes nicknamed "SS Bozzio"), in which the tom toms are tuned to specific notes to create the atmosphere that is Bozzio’s signature sound.

The "SS Bozzio"

Bozzio’s influence is becoming a more prominent force as modern day drummers are seeking to break the barriers of the traditional grooving drummer to the drummer that takes a more prominent role as the leader of a band, a position that in westernized music has been dominated by the guitar.

His drum clinics are legendary, often selling out the point of people being turned away. Often, this is because guitarists, bass players and other non-drummers attend these performances, something not common for drum clinics. It could be legitimately argued, that while most drummer use clinics as a side-project while their musical endeavors are on hold or on break, Bozzio's are full performances and can be considered a musical concert in and of themselves.

Its an issue with the newest version of Flash. If you can uninstall and go back to an earlier version it should fix it. It did for me at least. All YouTube videos were stopping after exactly 2 seconds.

Great pick HD, I had my fingers crossed that Bozzio would fly under the radar here (wishful thinking). I attended one of his drum clinics in toronto, he's simply amazing.

By far heads and shoulders the best drummer I've had the pleasure of seeing play

With MonsieurFish's third round pick, he is pround to select, in the wildcard singer category: Elvis Presley

Quote:
Elvis Aaron Presley[1][2] (January 8, 1935August 16, 1977), sometimes written Aron,a was an American singer, musician and actor. He is considered a cultural icon, sometimes referred to as "The King of Rock 'n' Roll", or simply "The King".
Presley began his career as one of the first performers of rockabilly, an uptempo fusion of country and rhythm and blues with a strong back beat. His novel versions of existing songs, mixing "black" and "white" sounds, made him popular—and controversial—as did his uninhibited stage and television performances. He recorded songs in the rock and roll genre, with tracks like "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock" later embodying the style. Presley had a versatile voice and had unusually wide success encompassing other genres, including gospel, blues, ballads and pop. To date, he has been inducted into four music halls of fame.
In the 1960s, Presley made the majority of his thirty-one movies—mainly poorly reviewed musicals. In 1968, he returned with acclaim to live music in a television special, and thereafter performed across the U.S., notably in Las Vegas. Throughout his career, he set records for concert attendance, television ratings and recordings sales. He is one of the best-selling and most influential artists in the history of popular music. Health problems plagued Presley in later life which, coupled with a punishing tour schedule and addiction to prescription medication, led to his premature death at age 42.
