jays lose in extras tonight. tough one, 3-2 angels. once again, great pitching, got out of trouble a couple times, but not in the 10th inning.

Jays didn't really "deserve" the win, as they were vastly outhit. Good game, though.

Well you keep leaving runners on base that's what's going to happen.

can someone explain why rios didn't bunt?

Gibbons has to go, his decision making is costing this team wins. Last night and today failing to call for bunts in key situations leads to two losses. Rolen is awesome though!!! Alex Rios is Kristian Huselius, can look flashy but garbage at clutch time.

No-Doubles defense gets the Jays today. Two routine Fly-outs to the Outfield drop for singles because they're playing too deep.

BJ sucked it up large in the 9th, but Rios has been tanking it for a while now. Huge thumbs down.

Rod Barajas made a great play to get Torii Hunter out at 3rd for what would have been the 2nd out, but the umps missed it or whatever you'd like to call it.

Tough tough loss today.

apparently he's supposed to be the best hitter on the team, he's in the three hole...yet he can't hit for average, power or production of any kind right now...i don't get it either, it doesn't make sense, he can't be in the three hole right now, even with wells out.

I don't get the grief that Rios is getting. He's been a great replacement for Wells in center field defensively, and his outfield assists are invaluable. Sure his bat has hit a slump, but he showed last year that he does have the power and capability. He'll come around, just like Overbay has. I see him more as a #2 hitter (get on base) than a #3 hitter (knock them in), but it'll have to do until Wells comes back and gets back into the swing of things.

He received a huge contract and is tanking, and his hustle and overall professionalism is sketchy at best. Thus the criticism.

I haven't seen this at all when I watch games.

His hustle is still there, as evidenced by his range and catches in center field, his outfield assists at home (charging the ball, bullet throw, etc), his rounding the bases, etc.

As for professionalism, how much can you really tell on TV? He looks to be having fun out there. Every team has their own jokester, and Rios seems to be playing that part up, in addition to Burnett, Wells, etc.

Jays Connected on Sportsnet yesterday (which I rarely watch) had Matt Stairs talking about Rios caring too much and having to lighten up. The discussion surrounded hitting mostly, and Rios wanting to do something with every pitch of his 15 billion at-bats he'd get during the year. Stairs said something to the effect of 'it's good that he cares so much, but he's gotta lighten up'. It definitely didn't portray Rios as the uncaring and lazy player that you're making him out to be.

There's no reason why Rios shouldn't be bunting there. With the way Rios is swinging the bat and the amount of double plays he's grounded into lately you have to make him move the runners along. I guarantee a veteran hitter like Rolen finds a way to make contact and drive someone home in that situation.

That was an unacceptable blown save by Ryan though. Yes, he's been perfect and, yes, it was bound to happen. It just can't happen in a game where the Jays deserved to win and the Angels only had 3 hits going into the 9th.

It's a shame the ump blew that tag on Hunter (by Barajas) since he was out by a country mile.

Really? I thought he was safe. Everybody seemed to be concentrating on his right hand when his left hand was already on the bag...

Great fake by Barajas though! I didn't think that Hunter would bite near that hard.

the fake was stellar, usually that kinda stuff doesn't work in the big leagues. i have to agree though, hunter did look safe to me. close play though.

I thought his left hand fell short of the bag. Sportsnet didn't really show an up close replay so it was a little hard to tell. You could see Rolen pointing to the ump about something and it looked like it was just that.

screw the Yankees.

FINALLY. Halladay throws a so-so game and his team backs him up with huge run support. 9-2 Jays in the 7th.

Not a great start for The Yankee Saviour.

I'm glad those dummy fans got a huge let down.
