Casey Affleck is a super star
The kid is no longer in big brother's shadow...and probably never should have been. I'll give Ben credit for writing Good Will Hunting and for directing Gone Baby Gone, but as an actor, Casey is way above him.
I watched Gone Baby Gone about a month ago with little expectation. Casey Affleck? In Ben's movie? What should I have expected? Well, as anyone who has seen it knows, not only was it a great movie it was a great performance by Casey.
Tonight I watched The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, a Brad Pitt produced film with Pitt as Jesse James and Casey Affleck as Robert Ford. The character is the complete opposite of Casey's Patrick Kenzie from Gone Baby Gone and he nails it. Throw in the always on Brad Pitt and an incredibly intriguing story and it's money. I think Casey could've been nominated for his performance in this one as easily as Gone Baby Gone.
If you haven't seen either movie, do it.

He was nominated for his role in Jesse James not Gone Baby Gone. But your right, both of those movies are awesome and Casey is a superb actor. He and Matt Damon were in a movie together back in early 2000's about being stranded in the desert or some such thing and I thought his performance in that flick was A+ as well.

I've seen both and I agree on most accounts. I actually thought Brad Pitt was rather lackluster, almost lazy, in "The Assassination" and Casey basically stole that show. In Gone Baby Gone, he was also amazing. In fact, I think he WAS nominated for best actor for that performance in this year's Oscars (or was that for best supporting actor in "The Assassination"?), but Javier Bardem or whateverhisnameis won instead.
He really is something. I didn't even know, until I watched the movie recently, that he was even in the movie Good Will Hunting (written by big bro and Matt Damon).

Where did I get it in my head that GBG was the nominated performance? Weird.

I am not sure, but for my money he should have been nominated for GBG, I think GBG should also have been a Best Picture nominee. Michael Clayton and Juno were good movies but in my eyes not even close to being on the same level as GBG.

According to IMDB they wrote it, along with Gus Van Sant. I guess I shouldn't be surprised by anything Matt Damon does at this point.

Gone Baby Gone and Assassination are easily two of my favorite movies from last year. I haven't watched either in a good while, I think it's time to put one of them into the DVD player. Casey Affleck is going to do well for himself based on those two performances.

I couldn't agree more. _Michael Clayton_ was entertaining and fairly though provoking but was hardly a great film. THe performances were really good though, especially Tilda Swinton.
_Juno_ was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Nearly unwatchable, and the dialogue was horrific. I only stayed with it because I really like a lot of the actors in it, especially Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garmer.
_Gone Baby Gone_ was a far superior movie to both of them and deserved a nomination. A great film, really well shot and really well acted. The Afflecks might have come into fame through Ben's looks and early acting, but he's looking to be promising director and Casey is certainly turning out to be quite the actor. I remember a long time ago, for _Good Will Hunting_ (I think) and Ben was saying that Casey was a far superior actor than him and that he hoped the world would realize it. Very cool... and a fantastic film.

Casey Affleck
+50 points for his role in the Assasination of Jesse James
-1 000 000 points for incessant whiny bashing of our city while he stayed here during filming of the movie. Yes Hollywood is incredible and our little city can't hold a candle to it, and you just can't wait to get out of here, we get it loser! beat it.

I thought Gone Baby Gone was just alright. To me Michael Clayton and Juno were the better movies, but I can see I'm in the minority on that one.
I do agree on Jesse James though. That was a fantastic movie, and Affleck was brilliant in it.

Assassination of Jesse James was hosed by the Oscars IMO, second best film for me behind There Will be Blood. It was a great film, acting was top notch, cinematography was very cool as it shot in Alberta and Manitoba.
