I don't know why anyone's saying she's ugly. In her FB picture she looks pretty alright.

I think the main thing is, to each their own. So she doesn't mesh with the men she met in Calgary and wants to go to NYC to get plunged by the Mario Brothers... so be it.
The issue I have is she blames everyone but herself and tries to make it sound like a systemic issue, rather than personal preference.

Yeah, but that picture only shows the outside, not the narrow stuck up gooey inside that expects that its the guy that has to make the move all the time. Sometimes s######s if you want something you go and get it, you don't wait (in my best Mel Gibson voice). Maybe guys don't approach her because she gives off the smell and anger of snot, or the pugent perfume known as stuck up.
I can't believe in the modern day and age of gender equality that its all up to the men to make the first move. Once in a while it would be nice for a girl to buy me a fricken drink, tell me I'm good looking (bwa hahaha), get me drunk and drag me back to her place . . . .yeah.
Woman have done a good job of shattering the glass ceiling, closing the gender salary gap, now how about making the dating scene more equal.
I bet this woman expects the guy to foot the bills, pay for her meals, buy her some jewelry that doesn't come out of a cracker jack box, and treat her like a princess.
Well sweetheart, the buck stops here, I totally want to be taken advantage of, I want those drinks sent my way, god damn it, I bet I would handle the whole walk of shame better then any woman could hope to.
Yeh gods.

Would somebody be holding said snake straight with the fangy end pointed at the wall?

That's the same issue I have with her too. She couldn't just leave quietly like many other Alberta born and bred (that we more than sucessfully backfill with Maritimers and people from Saskatchewan), she had to insult us publically in the process.

I absolutely agree with you!!!
Its funny, if this article was about two Calgary men going to the US to find women who would stay at home and cook and clean the house they would be branded as sexist pigs.
As a Calgary man I am offended by the blatent sexism exhibited by these women who expect men to read their minds and make a move. Face it ladies, if your attracted to somone go up and talk to them.
The irony of feminism is that feminism has freed men from the old dating rituals. You go guys!!!

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion... including this board, and of course, Yvonne.
The problem is when people start trotting out their opinion as fact or as a general rule. When people do that, they are asking for a rebuttal. The overwhelming conclusion here is that she was A. sending the wrong signals or B. looking to blame society for her bad luck or C. she came off sounding very conceited (maybe she isn't I don't know) in the mentality that Mr. Right has to romance her like a Disney Princess despite the advent of gender equality and the gradual dissolution of those societal norms.
I would never write an article about Alberta girls being stuck up bitches because I got shot down a few times, its just silly.
Thats public discourse. Don't like it... don't publish your opinion in a newspaper. Granted a few guys did go a little overboard.

Although I live in Alberta, I am neither from Alberta or Canada. People comment on my fellow countrymen all the time, and I only find myself getting frustrated/annoyed when I realise what they are saying is true. I'm guessing this is the case here.

haha, 'uptight' and 'frustrated/annoyed'?
I thought our majority-response to the article was more about how (1) comical it was and (2) what a waste of ink it was, more so than anything to do with the actual content?
I think most people had already discarded what the Edmonton-whacko-who-is-moving-to-NYC-to-find-her-dream-subway-washroom-cleaner had to say long before it got to the uptight/frustrated/annoyed stage?
I know for me personally, the most annoying part is that articles like this are frequently in the paper as 'features' yet if they were reversed (women are all messed up, men are perfect) women would be up in arms and the paper would be publishing apologies.
At least we are putting our opinion where it belongs (some random web-forum) while she is having hers published (across the country no doubt).
But if it was meant as a comical piece then good job! Your friend is hilarious!

See I think this is where you lost me, are the opinions expressed here not equally as valid as hers? Just as some of the comments here made you laugh, many of her comments made us laugh.
To be unable to find a decent date in a city of over a million to me suggests there might be something unsuitable about the date seeker rather then every possible male suitor in such a large city. Sometimes to find the real problem you need to look in a mirror.

There may be over a million people in Edmonton, but what % are male and what % are already off the market?? My arguement is that if you don't consider yourself one of the guys Yvonne is talking about, why make this a big deal? Why even start a forum about it? To say 'Yvonne goes to the US with a big F U from all the Alberta men' proves her point. That may not be what all you guys think but that wasn't really needed!!

To play with the numbers... lets say there's 48% men (its probably a lot more, but lets give her the benefit). That's ~480000 guys... lets say 75% are married (again, a high percentage), that leaves 120000 guys. Lets say half of that is too young/old and that leaves 60000. Lets say 80% of these guys are bloody ugly/disgusting... that leaves 12000. I'd bet she's maybe met AT MOST 5% of that, or 600 people... that leaves 11400 guys that she has no clue about, and yet chalks it up as a general rule. That's not only illogical, but downright naiive. Not just of her, but the morons that published her diatribe.
Why do we get upset? Why do people get upset when Sharon Stone said China's earthquake was karma? We're not the Chinese victims... we take note of it cause it was a stupid thing to say and have published for public discourse. Why would this be any different?
Calling out all Alberta men because of her negative experiences with a very small sample was a very arrogant, self-centered, egotistical and silly thing to do. The piss off and good riddance from Alberta was not uncalled for based on her instigation, and perhaps serves as a warning to those upstanding NY men. Again, we all found it funny because of the ridiculous attitude, so we'll make fun of it if we want to.

Here we go again....you do not like our opinion and you are trying to use "shaming language" to coerce us into your point of view. Next you imply that "some woman hurt us and now we're all bitter and angry" after that you imply that because we don't agree with Yvonne that there is something " weird about us and we can't attract women" and finally you'll imply that we are gay.
Sorry, I'm a grown man with my own opinion and I will not allow you to manipulate me in this way.

Why bitch and complain to a newspaper about it unless you want to generate discussion? Maybe you should date her.

Uh , relax. This is an internet forum where people really have nothing better to do. Myself included. Some threads contain posts simply meant to rouse up further discussion and also to serve as entertainment. Some of the more vulger posts are meant only to serve these purposes and shouldn't really be taken as seriously as it seems you are taking them. If Yvonne doesn't have a thick skin about such things then maybe she should have thought about that before putting her name and opinion out there in a published periodical.
Eric Francis has been called much worse in these parts on a regular basis, but yet he still musters the courage to write even more offensive opinions day after day.
