Yes I'm very surprised Bruce!

With the 16th overall pick in the draft, The Harry Manbacks (Oilers_fan) select TOOL in the band category.

Quote:
Tool is an American rock band, formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California when drummer Danny Carey joined the rehearsal of his neighbour, singer Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones and bassist Paul d'Amour when nobody else would show up. His decision proved to be a stroke of luck when the band turned out to become one of the most profound rock acts of their time, "introducing dark, vaguely underground metal to the preening pretentiousness of art rock" most notably due to their influential sophomore effort AEnima (1996). They have gained appreciation and critical praise for a complex and ever-evolving sound, that ranges from "slam and bang" heavy metal on their first release to more progressive influenced songwriting on Lateralus (2001) which "is as far removed from what's considered musically popular these days as you can get."

Their overall sound has been described as "grinding, post-Jane's Addiction heavy metal" as well as "a primal sound as distinct as it is disturbing" most simplified categorizations of the band's genre are often dismissed (see: Arguments About Genre & Categorization). They are known for addressing philosophical and spiritual issues in their lyrics, such as evolution ("Forty-Six & 2"), organized religion ("Opiate") and transcendence ("Lateralus"), as well as for songs that feature "complex rhythm changes, haunting vocals, and an onslaught of changes in dynamics" which often result in a greater-than-average track length. Additionally, most of their music videos feature stop-motion animation created by Jones, in a style similar to the Brothers Quay "strange puzzle-like four minute movies" which tend to perpetuate the perception of Tool as a "dark, disturbing" band.

Nah, Bruce picked Yuna Ito first in the hottie draft too.

I think he would somehow pick her first in a gunrack draft

Yeah, I thought i had my first pick down to two choices, but ended up going with neither one and instead took Queen. I think people are snapping up their favorites because they also happen to be pretty popular bands/artists, and thus there is greater risk they won't be around later.

Yeah I think these first few rounds will be easy, as long as your favorites stick around. I know I had a tough time between who I'd pick though. It was either Cash, another singer, a bassist or a band...hopefully they all are still available when my picks come!

Tool!!!

One of my top 3 concert experiences for sure. I'm surprised my wife agreed to marry me after seeing my performance at that show. I was like a man posessed!

The local arena tried to assign seating on the floor, all of the seats ended up piled adjacent to the stage. Dumb.

Fantastic band.

Tied up with getting kids ready for the day so will try and get info up later.

But with our first round pick we are happy to select as our Bassist: Bass legend from Primus and Oysterhead bass legend Les Claypool.. didn't want to pick him this early but my first pick in this area has already been taken and i didn't want to lose my second choice.

After Metallica, Tool is probably my favorite band in the world, of all time. I saw them once live, before I became a real fan, and wish I had known more about them then. But luckily, I was able to see them again. Damn they put on a good show.

Thanks to Girlie for making my pick in my absence...she did a great job, I don't think I need to add to the selection at all.

I didn't think all of these bassists would start going so early either so i picked Les early knowing he wouldn't last

Elite bass players are rarer than anything else, really. There are tons of vocalists, drummers and guitar players to pick from. That's why I picked Burton while I could.

Sounds like Bass Players are the equivalent of left-footers.
They're going fast!

Hmmm... so would a double-bass player be the equivalent of someone with two left feet?
