Not completley safe but I say we do pretty damn good. Worst thing in recent memory was that flooding a couple years back. I'd much rather deal with that then twisters every other week.
Man, last earthquake I remember in the Calgary area was when I was still in Elementary school. That was like almost 20 yrs ago.

April-June in tornado alley. Happens every year, though some are worse than others. We've had 330 tornado or severe thunderstorm warnings in the Wichita TV market (most of Kansas, parts of Northern Oklahoma and Southern Nebraska and extreme Western Colorado) since Thursday evening. It has been intense for sure.
But it's not out of the ordinary.

Its quite appropriately called tornado alley for a reason. Contrary to popular belief, this is not just a coincidence.
Why people choose to live in such an aptly named locale is beyond me.
Thats like choosing to live in a place called "Murder Central" because the decor is charming and the rent is cheap.

They're actually pretty good at it now. If you're watching TV or listening to the radio when the bad stuff comes in you're going to have plenty of time to get to your safe spot. The trouble comes when people aren't paying attention or have no place to go or don't listen to the warnings.
Nice Twister reference....fun movie, if nothing else.
"Cow"
Jami Gertz' character "We have cows."

I see your point, but I don't think that's the case. I think with the widespread availability of eyewitness video and photos the stories become much more interesting and dramatic.

Totally the case, although i agree with your point, it is a combination of the two IMO. There is certainly people out there ready to use weather occurences to try and prove there point, whatever it is...
