Senator Edward Kennedy Has Malignant Brain Tumour
Senator Edward Kennedy has malignant brain tumour
Quote:
Doctors treating Edward Kennedy said Tuesday that the U.S. senator has a malignant brain tumour, discovered after he suffered a seizure over the weekend at his Cape Cod vacation home.
Kennedy had a seizure at his family vacation home on Cape Cod on Saturday, and was taken by air ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
A statement released by medical staff at Massachusetts said tests had found a tumour known as a glioma on the left side of his brain.
His treatment will be decided after more tests, but the usual course includes combinations of radiation and chemotherapy.
|
Quote:
Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year — and the most common type among adults.
How well patients fare depends on what specific tumour type is determined by further testing.
Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.

Very sad day. I hope he pulls through but this is going to be a tough fight.

Clearly you haven't been around here long enough. I use the Anna Nicole Smith Death thread as exhibit A.
I'm quite surprised no one has said anything to the effect of think it would be his liver before his brain.
I do understand the idea Kipper Is King is trying to make here, but youhave to take most things posted on here with a grain of salt. Only a select few posters around here would actually wish cancer upon someone.

Mary Jo Kopechne might be smiling somewhere.

Yikes, I knew that would come up sooner then later. Even though I feel bad for Kennedy's family and friends, and I hope he recovers, I don't think that he should be lionized as a great man or humanitarian.

Agreed. I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone and I sympathize for sure, but this guy has spread his share of pain.

IIRC, according to Congress laws, he has 160 days or something before he has to retire.
I feel sympathy for his family, his friends and those people who worked with him day to day, but for someone who basically killed an innocent human being, I have little remorse.
Quote:
In 1969, Edward Kennedy drove a car off a bridge into the channel between Chappaquiddick Island and Martha's Vineyard. Kennedy managed to escape but his passenger, campaign worker Mary Jo Kopechne, drowned in the submerged car. Kennedy left the scene of the accident and did not call authorities until the following day. Kennedy pled guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and received a suspended sentence of two months in jail.

It's kind of cruel to discuss this, but do you think that her smile would have been larger had he encountered a tree while skiing or perhaps have been on that plane, or the fact that his family had to endure so much tragedy and he lived to see it all?
Either way, cancer sucks and nobody "deserves" it. Sometimes though, you can't help but really only feel bad for the family and friends.
