There are discernible nuances in most instances.

"I imaging that the use of the word..." is still not correct grammar, independent of the use of "imaging."

A friend and me (a friend and I) had a lame argument last night. We were talking about fishing or something and mentioned something about a buoy. He corrected me and said "what? Boo-e? it's "boy"?

Now, I've never heard a buoy pronounced as boy before. I've only ever heard it as "boo-e". I laughed and said no way, that's ridiculous, and made a joke about him just liking boys (I win). He then nerdly went online and started searching. Turns out, we were both right.

Anyways, calling a buoy, a boy, is dumb.

Where are you from? I think the acceptable west coast pronunciation is BOY or BOY-E. I heard its a derivitive of Buoyant or BOY-ANT and thus BOY or BOY-E for short. Most east coasters pronouce it BOO-E.

I'm off. Going to eat some wings now. He's buying!

Albertan born and raised. Both parents are east coasters though, and that's where the majority of my family is from.

I've heard Boo-e the most though, hell we ended up watching Deadliest Catch later on and I heard boo-e and snarked.
