Here is the article on Bonds the Cardinals passing on Bonds this offseason:

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/spo...4?OpenDocument

Cardinals arguably had more reason to add him considering their outfield entering the season and the need for protection for Pujols. Instead others have stepped up and the team is playing a great team game and winning. Not sure you would even get Bonds to listen to La Russa ask him to do the things the kids are in terms of sacrificing, bunting, etc. Let alone if guys would be so loose and able to have fun if they were concerned about blocking Barry's view of his private TV in the clubhouse.

man if the jays had any hitting they'd be in first in the division. They should call me up, don't think I could do much worse.

wow! 3 runs in the 10th and they actually hang on to win. Amazing pitching once again. Marcum with a two hitter through 8, ryan with a perfect 9th innning and Downs closing it out in the 10th.

Stairs with 4 hits today. Rios I don't think could hit off a tee right now.

Un-assisted triple play? Wow.. I should have been watching. Who cares that it was an Indian who did it.

yea it was pretty cool to see, and pretty lucky. that ball hit pretty much anywhere else but there (right at second) and it doesnt happen or if the runners aren't going its not a triple play either

Yep, not to mention it was one of the few times all game where the Jays put on the hit and run.

One of those things when things are going bad for your offence, they're going bad. Team gets runners on with no one out in the midst of a 25+ inning scoreless drought and what happens? Hit into the 14th unassisted triple play in the 100+ year history of the game. Funny though after they finally pushed a run accross, on the next pitch they get a hit to score two more. Just funny how things work sometimes.

Once again Gibbons knows exactly when to go to the bullpen.

Gibbons merry go round of pitchers almost cost this game!

I don't know about that. It was the perfect time to try out Benitez. IIRC, they were up by 3 runs late in the game. Just a bad outcome. IMO, I wish the guy kept Litsch in to finish out the inning and pitch the next. His pitch count was only at 70. I think Litch slows down pretty badly after about 85 or so, which was probably Gibbons reasoning, but it was a bit early. As the season wears down though, Gibbons constant changing of pitchers will probably kill the bullpen arms as they're being overworked to throw 30 practice pitches in the bullpen only to use 10 in the game, every game. Doesn't sound too good. Frasor should have been left in longer though.

I find that Litsch seems to be okay the first two times through the order, but when MLB hitters get a third look at him is where he gets in trouble. I suppose I could find stats to back up that claim. If you let them have a 4th look at him, he tends to get slapped around. So in his case I think batters faced is a more important number than pitch count when it's time to look at pulling him from the game.

^Yup pretty common for a fifth starter. If that guy can get your through the fifth inning with a chance to win i think he's done the job.

On the other hand Litsch's record is 5-1 not to bad for a 5th starter.

Halladay simply has to be better when the team actually gives him some runs to work with.

The Twins are going to score more runs the way he's pitching right now.

My theory is that a guy like Halladay has been burned so many times by terrible Jays' offense that he's developed an inferiority complex of sorts, so when he does get offensive support, it's almost like he feels like it's too good to be true.

Gah, that sounded a lot better in my head. It's hard to explain why I'm thinking.

Anyways, Burnett and Doc have started becoming pitchers who can't get it done with a large lead.

That being said, I think the Jays get the birthday boy a win today! They're up by a run right now!
