Default Beerfest Vacation Draw Winner?

I got a phone call this evening (I couldn't talk long because I was in a meeting) but apparently I won the draw for a vacation that I entered into when I was at Beer Fest.

Why is my first reaction to wonder if it's a scam?

It wouldn't happen to be one of those vacations offered by some time share company?

sorry, I should've clarified...I know 3-4 people that got the phone call...they ask you for your credit number and stuff before they give you information. Even if it's not a scam, it's shady.

About 3 years ago I clicked on one of those 'millionth person!!!you are winnar!!!1' type ads, It told me I had won a free cruise in the Caribbean. I filled out the info (no CC info),and was phoned within the week. After the typical 5 minute spiel, where they get you saying 'yes' alot they dropped the truth: 3 days were free, but you had to go for a week, paying for the extra 4 days.

I backpedaled and told 'em I couldn't afford it. The reply was: 'yes you can! You have x amount remaining on your Visa Card!' or something similar.

I guess they had done their homework, and weren't taking no for an answer. Needless to say I told them to Fook oof, but they kept calling for at least 6 months afterward.

I will not give out personal info anymore, and would laugh at anyone wanting my CC info.

That would be a scam.

If you won a trip why would they need your CC#.

Yeah, they're not necessarily SCAMS (though this one might be, and any that asks you for CC # or any other personal info is) they're just time share/vacation companies trying to get you in to their presentation meetings. If you entered anything at a trade show, you win! It just takes them some time to call every single number they get.

Depending on the company it might be a fair sales pitch, or a huge pressure sales job. The prize they give out at the end is usually just accomodations somewhere, you need to get there yourself, but I do know a few people who have had nice vacations because of attending a meeting (and lots of people who just left frustrated). They always give out the prize at the end, but in the high pressure instances, most people walk out before the end. As I mentioned there are companies that are more fair than others though.
