... so ... you berate the Girl Guides who stop by your door about the problems raised by the production of their cookies ...? I mean, there must be a better way to raise money for their nefarious schemes than wasting 15 seconds of your time.

15 SECONDS! Man, that adds up. Time that you'll never get back.

Jerks.

I don't answer my door unless I am expecting someone, or recognize the vehicle in my driveway.
If by chance I did, or I was out front raking the lawn or something, and they showed up. I would say no I'm not interested, if they said good day then sir, and left, great. If they said one more thing about their religion after I said that, I would consider that an invitation to be rude to them, until they left.

Well said.

I'm not Mormon, but they'll always get a respectful response from me.

Rathji or Displaced Flames fan, can you really not have caffeine? If so, what is the reason for this?

I don't know anything about Mormons...

Well ... obviously, Dion, you and I disagree on this matter. I don't see what's difficult about a quick "not interested" and why it's worth getting worked up over, when you look at the big picture.

Well, call your MLA and get them to make a law if it bothers you that much.

They have every right to knock on your door.

I wonder if some people here would have a problem if 'atheists' went around from door-to-door trying to 'convert' people.

Or agnostics. Or any 'other' group.

I think it has something to do with not altering your state of mind.

Not sure though.

They should change that though.....recent scientific studies are showing that caffeine is VERY beneficial for your health.

Some people get worked up over anything religion.

To the point where they love to be rude towards religious people.

How about the thing about caffeine? Someone once told me it was as simple as it's just not good for your body and you should treat your body well and it's disrespectful to God to do otherwise.

And we've seen a few times that people say "I did X and they never came back". Do the missionaries actually have some sort of black book that lists addresses of people who don't want to see them? That seems like a real logistical nightmare and I've never seen missionaries consulting any sort of list. They just go from one house to the next, far as I can tell.

Anyway, I'm about as religious as a rock and I just don't understand the hostility to door-knockers. The "I'm not interested" routine has never failed me on my doorstep. All these elaborate plans to humiliate, berate or scare them off require a lot more effort than just acting civil.

I spent a few summes in Utah growing up as my Dad was going to school at BYU. We are not mormom but it is true that they can't drink cafine, booze etc. Back then you couldn't even find cafine pop at the 7-11 (it may be different now?). They are very clean living people. We got stopped on the campus at BYU for having our shirts off and we were told to put them back on by campus security. They also aren't supposed to touch money on Sundays, and they have to wear these one piece underwear that seemed very uncomfortable. I didn't really let any of that get to me as Provo Utah in the summer was amazing! All I remember was 30+ everyday for weeks on end! Theo Fleury was doing a hockey school back then also and I got in on that too...Calgary had an farm team in SLC back then....good times...way off topic but other things stand out for me about Utah then the mormons and every religion is going to have it quirks so just pick one or don't pick one and don't worry about it as it is a waste of time to debate religious views IMO.

To the people who are making comments along the lines of, "It's only 15 seconds of your life being interrupted, what's the big deal?":

What is your opinion about telemarketers?
