I would think that a movie would ruin it.
Right now, the actions and reactions are pure, without any ulterior motives. A movie would never be able to recreate that emotion; at least not in the same way the original story does.
And movies and TV already try and squeeze enough "sap" out of these types of stories, be it Love Story or Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
The real story always has more impact, and any attempt to commercialize it could never recreate what is already there.
