I read that they already plan on making a sequel. The director was hired to make 2 Iron Man movies.

As for Captain America, I read that they do not plan on making a movie about him because the studio figures it would be a tough sell overseas.

I have heard that they are thinking of making a Thor movie though.

Better tell them that, since it's in pre-preduction right now.

According to this story from 2 days ago, the studio has not green lighted a Captain American movie yet:

The studio's next project is expected to be announced on an earnings call Monday, with "Avengers," "Ant Man" and "Thor" the favorites. ("Captain America" is a prime property but is perceived as a tough sale overseas.)

So much for GTA4 affecting it's box office. It made just over $100 million over the weekend.

I'm going tonight to the #1 movie:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2492&p=.htm

What a difference a single movie can make. After weeks of humdrum pictures dragging it down, business came roaring back with the sensational debut of Iron Man, the first salvo of the summer movie season. While the weekend as a whole was down from last year when Spider-Man 3 hit a new opening milestone, it was the fourth best on record for the early May timeframe.

Iron Man rocketed to an estimated $100.8 million on approximately 8,700 screens at 4,105 theaters for a $104.3 million tally including Thursday night previews. The reportedly $140 million-budgeted Marvel Comics adaptation had the second-highest grossing opening weekend ever for a non-sequel behind Spider-Man and the tenth highest overall. In terms of attendance, the start was slightly higher than X2: X-Men United's May 2 debut five years ago, and it soared past Marvel's average opening by over 60 percent.

They changed their mind fast. They're now expecting it to be out in 2011.

I'm pretty sure I can watch either of the Dark Knight trailers a million times and it will not lessen my expectations on this movie. Just keeps on getting better!

Wow, impressive! I actually wish I hadn't seen this thread at all. I haven't seen the movie yet, and this thread has changed my expectations from "non-existant" to "massive". That would've been great to walk into what I thought would be a crappy movie, and have it blow me away.

Then again, if it wasn't for this thread I probably wouldn't be seeing it at all.

I saw the movie last night with my family. Really enjoyed it. I'm glad Downey was cast as Tony Stark. Tom Cruise (rumored to play Stark) would have ruined it for me. My six year old loved it when the first Iron Man came out of the cave with flame throwers. I loved Stark's private jet, complete with pole-dancing flight attendants.

Iron Man 2 already in the pipeline for 2010 followed by Thor, Cap'n American and The Avengers. Looks like Marvel starting their own studio may pay off for all of us.

Oh man, definitely agreed. I always thought I was on my own! It just doesn't "do it" for me.

Saw the movie yesterday, and liked it quite a bit. It's pretty sexist, many of the jokes are rather obvious but there was also a lot of downplayed stuff which steered the general atmosphere clear of the obvious pitfalls and into high entertainment levels. Not a movie for the more developed parts of the brain obviously, but I doubt anyone would was expecting that.

Robert Downey Jr. rocked, as expected, and Gwyneth Paltrow was excellent too. Nice to look at of course too, although since in this context "action" is a euphemism for "violence", I don't really care much one way of the other, as long as the actress has enough charisma to carry th role. (If they meant the other kind of "action", well, that'd be another story.) But Paltrow was perfect for the role in every aspect, which is always a big bonus, since there really aren't that many characters worth mentioning in the film. Terrence Howard was mostly annoying even if he did work as a contrast character, and Jeff Bridges pulled a decent routine job.

I was even a little impressed by some of the little things they did for pure style, like the SHIELD agents, especially in the scene where they blow the door open. Extremely calm, courteous and professional. Like good butlers with a license to kill. And of course the overblown technical stuff. Forget the suit, I want Tony Stark -level of user interfaces right now

The amount and style of action was also about right for me. There were really only a few scenes, they were kept relatively short, and they were all clearly different and served a different purpose in the film. I like that.
