For me the Memorex ones are the best.

Maxell is no good...

What else works really well?

I use whatever is on sale but not cheap no name crap or Mitsumi type stuff. London Drugs just had a sale on Fuji DVD's which are manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. They're regarded as the best for CDR's and DVDR's. It was a awesome deal for Taiyo Yuden disks.

What's wrong with Maxell? Maxell, made in Japan, is probably the 2nd best DVD media available in the world. The first being Taiyo Yuden media, ironically sometimes sold under the Maxell label.

Check media-codes when you purchase DVDs, most brands don't matter but rather the media code on the discs.

This huge thread contains in it, all the information you'll need about DVD media and media codes.

I have tried to burn 15 so far, and 5 have turned out bad.

For my software Memorex works the best...

Just wondering what else is really good that is out there...

I use chearp generic ones, like Mitsui. I haven't had any problems burning anything at all. I have a pioneer burner.

I have a Pioneer burner.. the best DVD's I've found are the Ridata ones

I've had mixed results with BenQ.. the first 3 i burned from the spindle were crap the rest seem to be ok.. i'm about halfway through

I bought a box of mitsumi ones for super cheap.. and i've been quite surprised by the quality... not a bad burn yet

If you have a pioneer dvd burner just buy the generic ones from OEM Depot. Only $10 for 50. I have burnt over 600 discs without one coaster. That is amazing.

I also have the Benq dvd-r. NOt bad either but i have proba made 2 coasters out of 200.

Only using Taiyo Yuden from now on for anything that I want to keep, like family photos or videos.

FYI FutureShop has a sale on right now on Maxell blank DVDs:

If you get the made in Japan 8X ones you'll be getting really good media.
