Saw it last night....

This movie is absolutely awesome. It's a tad weak on story, but it more then makes up for it with the directing and acting. Jon Faverau might very well become one of my favorite directors!

If you're on the fence about Iron Man, go see it. I didn't really care too much about it as I basically ignored Iron Man growing up. But now... damn, it was a good movie.

And yes, it's safe to bring kids to. Only one scene in which a girl is nearly naked, but her bits are covered. And really, if you're hesitant about nudity but completely fine with showing a kid a movie where people get shot, beat up and blown up...

No swearing that I can recall.

Whether or not it can hold a kids interest though. That's a tough one actually. The first part of the movie requires the audience to understand the concept of terrorists in order to properly get what is happening. After about 30 min, it will completely occupy anyone's attention though.

Let's hope Robert Downey Jr stays out of rehab so they can make a sequel.

My six year old will kill me if I don't take him tonight. He has sat through 2 hour movies before with no problem (he might need a bathroom break). I would not take my four year old to a kid's movie, as he could not sit still for more than 30 minutes.

Tony Stark can't stay out of rehab in the funny books. Maybe Downey is a method actor - just getting into the role.

Go early, or get tix online if you are going tonight. Tix for a 715 show at one of my local theatres is already sold out.

.
thanks, that's exactly what I was wondering. I have to somehow convince him to tough it out for the first 30 minutes. It won't really matter whether he misses the plot nuances, he'll just want to see the costumes and the action, but ...

trout I'll be interested to hear what your little guy thinks

Iron Man's biggest fans react:

http://www.comicboards.com/ironman/

The Incredible Hulk move later this summer can't possibly match the buzz of Iron Man.

If anyone is going to see this do me a favor and wait till after the credits, I just read that there is another scene and it is awsome if it is true.
It is a bit of a spoiler so here is a tiny URL if you want to read about it. http://tinyurl.com/6rw6w9

I just saw it and it was bloody awesome. Really cool superhero flick and Robert Downey Jr was great. I don't know much of the Iron Man franchise so I haven't the slightest clue as to whether or not it was true to the comic, but you know what, I don't care. It was a really cool popcorn flick, great way to get the summer movie season started.

Bring on Indiana Jones!!

Just so you all know: Anyone who has signed on to play a member of the Avengers has also signed on to do the Avengers movie.

Nearly every Marvel character has been an Avenger. What characters are you talking about?

So people are actually going to go see this cheasy looking movie? I've never even heard of Ironman, what's next Aquaman starring Ashton Koosher?

Well I for one wouldn't have thought of seeing this movie without the good reviews. This looked like the typical lame comic book movie which I am not really a fan of. But after reading the reviews it looks more than that, and hopefully I'll check it out.

I can't wait to see this movie.

I'm also kind of excited to hear there are plans to make(from Rhettzky's list)a movie from the world war z novel.I still love my zombie movies.

These superhero movies are making a lot of money, but they're (the producers and studios) going to kill it soon.

Like I said before, Iron Man looks awesome, and I've been a fan of Spidey too. Didn't like Daredevil, Hulk was interesting, but if they come out with some of these titles they are thinking of, they are going to kill the genre for a good 15 years. Ant Man? Come on.

More realistically, Captain America? It's going to be very hard to do well. He lost a lot of his significance even in the comics only getting a resurgence very lately. Him and Iron Man took a stance on issues coming out of Sept. 11th 2001 like the patriot act with Capt. being on the anti 'war measures' side and Iron being on the pro side. Divided the superheros in two it did (as they like to do every few years with crossovers). But it was interesting stuff.

I can't see them being able to translate a story like that to film though. And if he's the older school Capt., it's going to be beyond cheesy and campy. Only people in the deep south will enjoy it.

Well I went a day late, but I have to say it was actually worth my $12.50, which is rare - if you like action AT ALL, go see this film, it won't win any Oscars (well - maybe special effects) but as comic-book adaptations go, it is fantastic.

Robert Downey makes the movie, he forces you to like him even when he should be unlikeable, and makes you believe in the transition (small spoiler) from fascist to superhero. Great job by him, and whether or not he's really playing himself is irrelevant, I think.

PS: Gwyneth Paltrow (who I used to think wasn't all that hot) was so smokin' as a redhead I have entirely revised my opinion, and realize that yet again, I was wrong. So wrong.

If he is in rehab there can be no sequel. Rehab is for quitters.

Curses. I was unaware of this.

That said, I liked it. Even as a comedy it would've been a success in my eyes. Funniest movie I've watched since SuperBad, and it has action too! The actual fight with the bad guy is pretty short, since they spend a lot of time on plot development and setting things up.
