Another reason why the death penalty is just not worth it.

Cheaper to keep a man in prison the rest of his life than to execute him at least in the States.

Its so private and 'humane' these days that nobody actually cares or realizes what is happening.
Same thing with 'jail'....inmates are almost living comfortably instead of being thrown into a 4x8 cell, without windows and only a cot and a toilet to keep them company.

Its not cheap to try a man, find him guilty, and shoot him in the head the next day.

Because when you're on death row you're often in prison for many years, and along with hte rent, food, bills, clothes, etc, etc....you also have legal fees because of the mandatory appeals.
In other words, the justice system is screwed up.
If you're going to have a death penalty, get rid of those on death row as quickly as possible.

Good luck with that one. We live in a modern society where people have rights.

Who said anything about multiplying the costs exponentially for every additional prisoner? The figure is bandied about as a relative measure when people want to qualify prison costs.

To boot, the $50,000/year cost is outdated at least for Canadian prisoners.

Cost of incarcerating a Federal prisoner: $259.05 per prisoner/per day
Cost of incarcerating a Federal female prisoner: $150,000-$250,000 per prisoner/per year
Cost of incarcerating a Federal male prisoner: $87,665 per prisoner/per year
Cost of incarcerating a provincial prisoner: $141.78: per prisoner/per day

$189 or even $137 a prisoner a day? Please......

True. So get rid of the death penalty.
Its ridiculous to have 'rights'....be a 'civilized' society, but still give the government the right to execute its own citizens.

Care to be specific on what "priviledges" are unneeded?

For the severe offenders? TV, video games, etc, etc.
I don't have a problem with physical activity....weights, sports....stuff like that.
But come on, if you killed an innocent person, you deserve nothing less than to be locked up in a cell, WITHOUT company or ANY form of entertainment for the rest of your life.

It's ridiculous to have rights? One strike and you're out even if people made mistakes (which people tend to make)? What if one was wrongfully convicted and executed? "Whoops, sorry about that. Awww, his family will get over it. Let's go for wings..."

To play devils advocate, you consider Ted Bundy, Charles Manson etc our "own citizens"?

Yeah, it is ridiculous to have 'rights'....and be a civilized society if the government has the right to execute its own citizens.

Yeah....scumbags, but citizens nonetheless.
Killing is too good for them.

I do. Because they are human, they have rights. I wouldn't mind if they were taken out back and shot but in a just and fair justice system it's not really feasible.

Further to that, do you consider James Lee Woodard a citizen?
