Strip them of the Cup. Give it to Winnipeg.

funny thing is even if the Riders are over do you really think the guys they brought in to replace Dominguez etc were as good? 'cause they most certainly weren't, they were replacements that's all.

Turns out it was true.
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/st...ughriders.html
Als fined $116,570 and stripped of a first round draft pick.
Riders fined $76,552
Funny how the Riders were bitching and moaning a couple years ago about how they couldn't afford players like the Stamps could.
Though I guess we all knew how hollow that whining was.

This will serve as no end of joy for me as I asterisk the riders fan in my office.
This is the best news of all of last season!

Wow we on CP are all now stupider for reading those posts. Clearly you guys have no idea about the CFL. Tillman even said half way through the season that they were likely going to violate the cap because of the stupid no IR rules.
The Riders have far and away the most amount of man games lost and of course I'm sure you don't know that there is no such thing as an IR in the CFL, where if someone is injured their cap hit comes off the books.
With this many starters hurt the Riders literally would have had a hard time fielding a team without signing a few more free agents.
Yeah lets also put an asterisk there because the best receiver in the league Dominguez was hurt.

How did the Eskimos not violate the cap? They abuse the cap by exponential amounts.

I would guess some of their expenditures are not classified as football expenditures and it never hits the Esks books. That said, I do believe with some of their contracts (Omarr Morgan's for example), were back heavy (i.e. - larger salary later on in the contract) and only had to count current year salaries against the cap (which makes sense).
Again, I laugh at the pot shots made at the Riders without actually looking what they did to get that close to the cap. They trimmed more salary than other team in the league thanks to the Shiv's salary management the year before. But yea, and the Flames lost cuz Kipper sucked.

Wrong.
Cohon even said that there are measures that teams can take if they have injuries and that the league has/will work with teams to make sure they abide by the SMS.
He stated that injuries were not an excuse.
Prior to the season Tillman admitted that the Riders had huge cap issues and that they were going to be over.
Injuries certainly didn't help but they weren't the reason.
The Riders won the cup good for them and their pathetic fans. There were already a lot of factors that diminished the win for the Riders, this is just another on the already long list.

LOL @ Dominguez being the best receiver in the league. Until he puts up a full season surpassing every other receiver in the numbers department, he's not the best receiver.
And good for the CFL actually following through with the system they have in place and not letting it slide like they did in the past. Good on Cohon.

In ten years no one is going to be saying that the Riders didn't deserve it because they broke the cap.
You watch next year when other teams violate the cap I'll be bringing back this thread to show all you haters.
If the Stamps win the GC next year and are over the cap by a measly $70,000 I'll be waiting for all of you to demand that the trophy be handed over to another team.
Furthermore, since clearly this had no affect on the Alouettes success there can be no conclusion drawn that this helped the Riders at all.
I hate to be a sore winner but man this feels extra good to rub it all in your faces that we won. We were well withing the rules.
Hell if the Stamps want to spend $250,000 over the cap let them and they can suffer the consequences. It only cheating if it isn't allowed. Since what the Riders did is well within the rules stop your petty bitching.

Nobody really blames you guys. If the Stamps couldn't win a championship in an 8 team league more than once every twenty years, I might feel the urge to cheat too.

yeah because your 3 Grey cups in the last 30 years with way better teams and way more money to spend you should be the ones cheating by now. (including the worst GC team ever in 2001 with an astounding 8-10 record)
Bothers me that people are treating it like Spygate. We didn't tarnish the game like the Patriots and take unfair advantage of other teams.
The Stamps or Lions or anybody else could've spent under $100,000 over and only had to pay that same amount. Everyone knows this and the penalty is so slim that I see more teams violating the cap for under $100,000 in the future. (any higher than that and you lose a draft pick so not a good idea) We saw a loophole and took advantage of it, live and learn.
The Riders did not do anything that is not well within the rules (sort of). I even find it a little far fetched to call it cheating. It's like a tripping penalty in hockey. You can do it all you like but you will get penalized and eventually your ignoring of the rules will catch up with you. People don't put asterisks next to Stanley Cup Champions because they took too many penalties in the playoffs. We did it we suffer the consequences so who cares.

I will be saying it - because they cheated and violated the cap.
It will be the only one they will win for another 20 years so it will be easy to remember. The one before this was Ridgeway's kick, Suitor with the hold; this one is the asterisk for violating the salary cap and improperly obtaining benefits that their brethren in the league agreed not to do. Pretty easy to remember.
