You've been elected to bring beer and vodka.
I've got the bases that Rhettzky so generously (and temporarily) donated, the game balls and the scorebook. That said, I'm pretty certain we are the road team for the first couple weeks, so none of this is required quite yet.
All you really need is to bring your glove, wear some pants and hit a home run or three.
Oh, and since the Jerseys won't be ready quite yet, wear a RED shirt.
As far as bases go, FireFly and I are looking at getting a permanent CP set so that we can relinquish Rhettzky's back to him.

I'm sure a few of us will be posting the results.
Namely how Central will have the honour of the first softball ass-kicking in CP's history.

I have seen them at both. The worst spot is at Optimist, but the diamond on the other side of the soccer field (farthest SW corner). Since they can drive right up to it.
Haven't had to play on that diamond for a while, luckily. Again, it was just a heads up to everyone.
We have a couple coolers that are built into a folding chair. Slightly smaller, but almost impossible to tell they are coolers. Never had a problem again.

Any arcane rules we need to know? I don't want everyone freaking out at me because I cross home plate the wrong way.

Pretty much.

It can be a circus at times. But the good news is that you meet three teams at a time!

Couldn't tell you about how much. Again, keep it civil, clean up after, bring cans, NOT bottles (nothing worse than broken glass!!!) and use can coolers if you have them (those styrofoam thingys).

Don't cross home plate. Don't even come close! Any contact with home plate (in either league) and you are out. Saves on collisions.
SW team plays with a "third strike foul out" while Central doesn't.
SW team can play fielders anywhere, where Central has a 150' line for outfielders and infielders cannot be inside the baselines.
SW team has 7 run max per inning and plays a "3 up" home run limit rule. Central has 5 run max but no limits on home runs.
SW team has umps and NO strike mat, Central umps your own batters but has a strike mat.
SW team has stricter rules on bats, Central team has a more flexible set of guidelines.
SW team plays 7/3 (guys/girls) while Central is 6/4.
Those are about the only differences.
Edit, oh and the SW team uses 11" balls for lady batters where the Central team uses the standard softball for both male and female.

So, how do you score runs? Where do you run to before the catcher tags you?

You run in behind home plate. If you cross behind the plate before the catcher catches the ball, you are safe. If you have crossed the committment line (2/3rds the distance from third to home, iirc), and the catcher catches the ball before you cross the area of the plate, you are out.
Basically, once you have crossed the committment line, any play at home is a force play. They just gotta get the ball before you get there.

Correct, for the Central team league.
LAST difference between the leagues... there is NO commitment line for the SW league.
Sometimes in the SW league, the umpire will have you touch a "second" home plate (about 8 feet to the right of the normal one). It's inconsistent though, not every umpire does that, so ask before each game.

What about taking out 2B to break up the double play?
A little chin music?

So how does that work without a commitment line then? Does the catcher still have to tag out the runner?

Not recommended. I have been involved in two brawls due to that.
Even in the SW league, it is still just a beer league. Any intent to injure will result in a suspension, perhaps permanent.

No, if the ball is caught before the runner passes the home plate "line", the runner can turn around and try to go back to third base.
If they proceed to cross the home plate line, they are out.
Edit, if a runner tries to turn around and go back and slips, the catcher can then tag them out. It works like any "pickle" situation.

Not exactly, breaking the plain is not enough; you must actually touch ground on or behind the line. A line should be chalked from the front of the plate to the backstop.
With no comittment line, the catcher just holds the ball until the ump calls time.
The negative there is that an unforced runner at three can dance around a bit keeping the catcher busy while a runner at one could advance to two.

I might be able to arrange that seeing as its my first Day off in almost 3 months.
It will be amazing.
By the way, assuming beer will be provided for a small fee, Sunday as our first game, what time? Is there an online schedule I can look at?

I will post the game info for Sunday later when I get home. As has been stated previously in the thread game times are 6:05 and 7:35.
The online schedule is down right now according to NSA but should be up in a few days(?).

And remember all there is not alot of light early in the year.
1805 is first pitch, game start, not arrival at diamond. Surest way to sit out, is not being on time.
Should have good warmup at 1745 latest.
