awesome episode, easily one of my favorites of the series. Ben is turning into quite the badass, though still quite in the greyish bad side as i think it's fairly obvious he setup the murder of Sayid's wife to get him on his side to fight Whitmore. i have a feeling the season finale is going to be quite epic if this is the leadup to it

Its funny that twice Ben said that he changed the rules, the first time after his daughter was given a 9mm skull cleaning, and the second time in Charles' bedroom.
It almost feels like this is all about one big game of chess where two people are manipulating a board full of pawns with the winner getting some sort of a grand prize.
I also noticed that Ben said that he couldn't kill Charles.
Still makes me think that this is nothing more the a game between God and the Devil with the Devil being Ben, he defeats you by manipulating the truth and making you do his bidding.
He was so smug in the rules that he didn't believe that his daughter would be killed.
I'm still convinced that non of them have actually been on an Island, and they're flashforwards and flashbacks are being created by someone else.

That episode was fantastic. Did Ben somehow 'teleport' to Tunisia? Is that what we are supposed to assume from the information we were given?
Yet another clue given tonight that time doesn't match the outside world on the island or that it plain doesn't matter.
Loved Ben's smirk after Sayid insisted on joining his little war. Looks like the end to this season is going to be as good, if not better than last year's.

Great episode. I loved when Ben pulled the shotgun out of the piano bench at the beginning. Everybody was exactly where he planned, except his daughter.
Could Widmore be one of the original Blackrock crew? That might explain why "the island has always been his". Perhaps Jacob is another member of the crew. I believe Widmore knows about Jacob, that is why (? Miles - the ghost guy ?) was sent on the mission. Ben is a key Widmore needs to get to Jacob IMO.
Why is Hurley the one that can find the cabin?

I think Ben and Widmore go back before the blackrock crew, I think Ben's story about his dad and growing up on the Island was a bit of a fabrication.
I'll be willing to bet that in the last year they'll show the black rock washing ashore and having to deal with another group of others under Ben, and another crew from another ship trying to get Ben and kill the survivor.
I also believe that Hurley is the third piece of the game players with Charles and Ben, he just doesn't know it yet.
As far as Jacob goes, he's probably the manifestation of the Island and the prize that you have to get too.

A few notes:
- Ben's alias when checking into the hotel was Dean Moriarty, Moriarty is widely believed to be to be Sherlock Holmes biggest nemesis
- Even in the most dire circumstances it's been proved that Ben will still lie and with hold information (I know nothing about the smoke monster)
- What are the rules? It's like comic books where each Superhero, and each Supervillan live by a code of conduct, or "rules" that they follow. (Two-Face flipping the coin, Batman doesn't skill, etc).
- The conversation between Ben and Widmore is very akin to the above Superhero, Supervillan banter. Right down to laying the blame for Alex's death. Both believe that they are the victim in the "game".
- Widmore talks about how the island is his, Ben says he'll never find it. Having the coordinates previously (with the boat and crew knowing its location) does that mean the island can move and change location?
Now for a question:
Who is the guy that was visiting Hurley in the mental hospital? He works for Widmore, but doing what? Why does Widmore want to know, need to know if there are others? What is his role?

I was pretty trashed when I watched it last night, and deleted the recording afterward. Couple questions.
What was the deal with Ben locking himself in the room? Do I remember him revealing some sort of hidden dirt wall or something with writing on it?
After Ben apparently summoned the smoke monster, did the guy who killed Ben's daughter get it?
Is the time delay between the boat and the island getting longer? Did the boat not say the doctor was fine, even though his soggy corpse was laying on the beach?

Yea, there was some stone with hieroglyphics on it. After Ben came out of that room, the smoke monster came. So we assume he summoned it, and instructed it.

I think that was purposely left open ended. We don't know what happened to them. Likely, some died, and likely the leader (Keamy) is still alive. That's my guess.

I don't think there is anything more concrete about the actual number of minutes the delay is. The only numbers were from earlier in the season to do with the rockets.

the preview for next week showed him still alive and hunting Sawyer and his group, so we know that much

I'm confused. The year in Tunasia was 2005. Aren't they on the island still @ in 2005?

Just finished watching this week's episode. A few neat things thrown in their, but all in all not a great episode.
However at the end when Jack told Kate "he's not even related to you" then you see that Aaron was standing in the hallway I literally said "oh " out loud. Mind you that also leads me to believe that Jack is aware that he and Claire are brother/sister.
While this episode didn't give us any new information in terms of playing mind games, I think it will give us a base for questions that are coming that we can look back and say "ohhhh right, but in 'Something Nice Back Home' thing X happened"

I missed the conversation between Jin and the redhead. What was all that about?

Jin realised that Red could understand Korean and had been lying. After threatening Disheveled Physicist, whom she apparently fancies, too, he made Red promise to take Sun off the island when the helicopter from the boat comes back.

Ah thanks!
Pretty good episode overall. Starting to see "future jack" unravel. The question of why Sawyer stayed behind is an interesting one as well.

I find the show is getting more predictable, however we should expect that as they get closer to their end game, as we'll get getting more answers, and putting more together than we have in seasons past when we were being bombarded with information and no answers.
We're getting answers. Jack went to the hospital, who else would he be going to see but Hurley? Jack picked up underwear (I assumed it wasn't his, but I mean who knows?) then talked to a girl in the shower . . . Kate. It makes sense, if Jack was sleeping with say Danielle, it'd be way more messed up.
However I am curious why the Smoke Monster never killed the mercenaries, and only left one guy the worse for wear.
I also love how the pilot is on the Lostee's side and hate the mercenaries as well.
As for the other Boaties on the island, I like them all but the red head, don't know why I seem to like Daniel, when he lies just as much as the red head?

This is a ridiculous thing to post. If you don't like the show, then don't waste your time and ours by posting in the thread. If you do like it, at least elaborate. Come on.
This episode was a little less 'bang for the buck' than last weeks which I can't recall having a wasted moment. All the stuff with Jack's surgery was wasted because we knew he gets off the island, so there's no tension and no point showing it aside from highlighting that he still loves Kate.
The major noteworthy element from this episode is that at this point Jack obviously knows that he and Claire are related. I was thinking that he must be made aware of this before he leaves but with all the ghost visitors off the island there's no reason his "Dad" couldn't have told him later.

Riddle me this.
If you feel this way why would you:
First - watch the show at all
Second - open a thread clearly marked as about that show
Third - comment in that thread.
Unreal.

Despite being a fan, I agree that there are some missteps in the way the story develops. Sometimes the writers string along the viewers with their little mysteries, and they know the viewers will eat it up. One example from last night is the long delay before we find out that it is in fact Kate that Jack is living with. It wasn't too much, though. It would have been really lame if they didn't reveal it was Kate until the end of the episode (something like they did earlier in the season with the Jin/Sun flashback).
Also, in regards to Jack's appendix. Why would he try to hide it? I'm no doctor, but once those start going bad, you pretty much have to get it out, right? Why would he try and hide it? I'm assuming that the doc really did know what was wrong with him.
