[rant] Why do our gf/wives talk about their colleagues...
... like we are all some sort of family?
I do not know these people. While I understand as a boyfriend, my job is to listen to your troubles of the day - and I understand this will include all lot of play-by-play coverage of workplace scenes that really don't matter.
That is sorta fine.
However, why must you then also tell me all about what Fred and Janet are doing as well.
Stop at some point, and realize that I don't care... I almost resent hearing about your day!

They want to include you in their lives. Their lives involve the lives of those around them. Perhaps she thought what Fred and Janet were doing was a funny anecdote or something. In addition, perhaps if you talked more about your life, she wouldn't feel the need to talk about hers as much.

I actually think that's the best course of action. Each time after she tells you about stupid and mundane things/people that you don't care about, give it right back to her and talk about stupid mundane details about your day. Once she realizes that the second she opens her mouth to talk about her day, she's in for an equal amount of time of you boring her, she'll either filter out all the crappy parts or just not go there at all. Works like a charm.

I just pictured your whole post being said with Dr. Phils voice.

In theory, I agree....but, what if she likes hearing about your mundane stories? Then she will want you to run on about stuff you don't really care. She might actually care more than you do about the stories you tell.

The trick is to not make the story about people. Make it about your accounting software. Talk about why mark-to-market hedging losses make your company's earnings appear lower to the naive retail investors, etc. Make it intentionally boring.

When I think of healthy relationships, I definitely think of boring my significant other to the point where they won't want to express themselves to me!
Be happy she wants to include you her life, that's a good thing. I guess depending on how serious your relationship is you can just tune her out.

Talk about sports. Either she likes sports and so you will have something in common, or she won't and might realize her stories suck.

I hate it when people talk their work. Leave work at work people.

Start telling her about the two hot girls at work and how they seem to be into her picture that you keep on her desk. Then tell her that the two hot girls are your supervisors and it would really help your career if only . . . .

This drives me bat insane. My girlfriend called me three times from work in the span of about a minute this morning. Being that I was in the shower at the time I missed the calls. So I get out of the morning and see these missed calls and think 'Holy , must be important,' and call her back. I then get greeted with an 'Oh my god guess what? Brian and Stacy broke up!!!' I then had to ask who in God's great blue **** Brian and Stacy were. Honestly!
