These are perfect for making next door neighbors loose their minds. My neighbor has the 'Beagle' model and it's most effective - especially between the hours of 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.

MOst yappy dogs are yappy because their owners don't treat them like dogs. Since they're so little and cute they treat them like babies, carrying them around, over protecting them, sleeping with them and my biggest pet peeve, sometimes put clothes on them. What they create is anxiety ridden, nervous dogs who bark constantly because they're afraid of everything.
Tiny breed dogs can be non-yappy and non-annoying if their owner treats them like they would a lab or german sheppard.

I have 2 huskies and they don't bark, they just glare. They do talk quite a bit to me though.

I have a Pug, the only time he barks is when someone knocks on our door. He wouldn't be around if he was a nervous yapper. I hate yappy dogs almost as much as cats.

Maybe every dog under 20lbs. It's always the little football sized runts that make the most noise. My dog can be added to the 'only barks for a reason' club. Rottis and shepherds and most large dogs are fairly smart that way. They seem to know what their bark is for.
I hate little yappers. And the worst thing about them is that the more they bark, the more likely you are to look at them and fuel more barking.

I have a trio of little yappers across the alley from my place. They absolutely kill my sense of goodwill towards small dogs. Some days I'm tempted to toss a few handfuls of chocolate chips into their yard. Other days I wish I had a BBgun to give them something to yap about.
The kids who live next door to them don't even play in their (awesome) yard anymore because of those annoying little buggers.

That boils down to owners, and how they trained the dog. There are plenty of sheppards and rottis that bark nonstop at the slightest noise. Personally I dont think you need an 80 pound noise machine going nuts at the guy walking down the street at 10pm.

I have to work everyday with one around since one of our reporters has one and brings him to work. Nobody can walk into the building without him acting like a raging maniac thinking he owns the place. Fortunately we only have to put it up for another three months as our reporter is on a year term.

Not all little dogs are yappy. My recently deceased Lhasa Apso only barked when needed and wasn't a bad little watch dog. Some breeds are worse, mostly the nervous ones and I think the owners can get a dog collar witch will give a small shock when a dog starts barking. They'll learn and it's the owners which should be brought to task.

My neighbour across the road has one - they leave their front door open so the dog can look out the screen door....and yap at every person/car/animal/leaf that it sees moving. It makes it tough keeping the windows open in the summer because of the noise.
And speaking to them seems to work for a day, then there he is, yipping again, "because he loves to see outside".

Most yappy dogs are about the size to fit into a microwave..
Coincidence? I think not.

They just take a node out of their throat as pups, its a painless procedure. The MD of Rockyview has a bylaw stating if you own more than 3 dogs they must be debarked. So when we bought our dog he was already debarked. I for one think its great, he isnt yappy to start with, but I wouldnt have it any other way.

My folks have a bunch of dogs and a few of them are small and yappy. Everytime I go home to visit they forget who I am, get up for a drink, bark, bark, bark. Reach for the remote control, bark, bark, bark. They finally start to calm down after 4-5 days, just when I'm heading back to Calgary.
The problem has more to do with the frequency, very high pitched. Hurts the ears. The Irish Wolfhound on the other hand, very calm and deep bark, not a problem at all. Loved that dog.

Yesterday my neighbour's Pomeranian (sp?) was barking at a piece of plastic blowing by. I hate that damn dog and the thought of tossing a laced hotdog over to it has crossed my mind... But I would never do it.
I have a 60 lbs lab and a 70lbs Great Pyrenees and they bark when people walk by and lose their minds when other dogs are around. That's the reason why we don't leave them out all the time. If they are outside and start barking then they come inside out of respect for my neighbours.
