FLAMES ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF INAUGURAL AWARDS
Stevenson Nets Trio of Awards

Moline, IL – The Quad City Flames announced today during a pre-game ceremony the winners of the 2007-08 team awards. Grant Stevenson won three awards while Derek Couture won the prestigious Jim Kohley Memorial Award and Carsen Germyn won the Fan Favorite Award.

Stevenson kicked off his hat trick of honors with the Star Award which recognizes the player with the most appearances in the team’s three star ceremonies following games. Stevenson was named first star on eight occasions, second star five times and third star seven times. He also won the team’s Leading Scorer Award with 72 points (30 goals and 42 assists) in 77 games. The Spruce Grove, Alberta native capped the awards with the team’s Most Valuable Player Award.

Derek Couture won the Jim Kohley Memorial Award which is selected by the Quad City branch of the American Hockey League Off-Ice Officials. The award recognizes the player that brings to the ice, the qualities of hard work and dedication that Jim Kohley brought to his position as an off-ice official.

Carsen Germyn won the inaugural edition of the Fan Favorite Award. The on-line voting received 20,864 total votes including 4,555 for Germyn and over 3,000 votes for four other Flames. Germyn also captured the Media Award as the Flames player that was most accommodating to local media.

In other awards: Tim Hambly was named the Defenseman of the Year, Matt Keetley captured Rookie of the Year and Matt Pelech was named the team’s Most Improved Player.

The awards were presented during a pre-game ceremony leading up to the team’s home finale. The Flames would like to extend their appreciation to the following corporate partners that participated in the ceremony: Casino Rock Island, Diamonds on the Avenue, The Dispatch and Rock Island Argus, Genesis, The Lodge, Modern Woodmen of America, Orthopaedic Specialists, Pepsi / AD Huesing and The Quad City Times.

The Flames travel to San Antonio for a pair of season ending showdowns with the Rampage this weekend. On Saturday, game time is 7:00 p.m. Sunday’s game will begin at 5:00 p.m. Fans in the Quad Cities can watch the game live at b2 Viewing Parties at Bleacher Bums in Davenport or Parkside Grill and Lounge in Moline. They can also be heard on 93.9 FM WYEC beginning 25 minutes prior to face-off with The Hayman’s Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show. After the game, stay tuned for The Kinetic Fitness Post-Game Show.
