I'll spot you Hedley, Finger Eleven and Avril Lavigne but of all the rest of the acts listed, which would you say are bereft of talent and only celebrated because of hype and record sales?
Haha, I really won't argue any of your points. I think my poorly thought out negativity spawned from my dislike of the mentioned 3 artists.

I take it back, CP!

Thank you for your capitulation. Now I can point to this as at least one instance of an argument I've won today.

I'm a pretty rational guy and your post was fancy. I was pretty impressed that clicking onto the artist's name led to their Juno Awards bio. Very impressive.

In the context of Canadian music, there were better bands out there that should have atleast made an appearance, whether they had new material or not.

Hip, Matthew Good, Bryan Adams... whoever. If it's a celebration of Canadian music, let's see some of the big names there - irrespective of them winning any awards.

How is Blue Rodeo group of the year???? Was there no better group that put out an album last year? The show was so cheesy, i turned it off after ten minutes.

Have you heard Small Miracles? It's awesome. How Blue Rodeo doesn't win Group of the Year every year is the real question.

There are so many amazing indie bands from Canada that are popular world wide, yet none of them seem to have anything to do with these Junos (except Feist, who is erstwhile indie).

To answer the first part of your question, although you asked Peter, I would say all of the other performers listed are bereft of talent.

I have no idea about their hype or record sales so will trust your implication that it isn't great.

Feist stole the show in 2005 as well at the Junos in Winnipeg, particularly for the live audience. She played an acoustic version of Mushaboom that had a ton of technical problems but she still captivated the crowd, the majority of which probably had never heard of her at that point.

Ok Finger Eleven used to be awesome, and even their last CD, even though more poppy for metal/rock was pretty good.

But how the frick was Paralyser nominated for anything? Please tell me it did not win. That song is B-R-U-T-A-L.

Heave worthy. Dry, panting, wretching heave worthy.

Rest of the CD, not much better.

Where do you get this? Are you familiar with all these artists? I didn't watch the show so I can't say they do have talent, but I've never heard of a lot of them, so I can't say they don't.

What makes you say they don't have any talent?

Michael Buble's music appeals to everyone from 12 year old girls to 90 year old grandmas, so I have to credit him for not catering to only one fan base. However, he is a Canucks fan and wrote "Flames Suck" on a Saddledome wall. For that fact, I'll never be a complete fan...

Really? That's brutal.

I'll pack my bags and go write "Lisps suck" on a GM place wall.

Did anyone catch that part of the show where Russel Peters was talking to some people in the crowd, and he started talking to an eleven year old kid named teddy? He asked Teddy a couple of questions that ended with, "Do you like girls Teddy?" "No, not really". then the whole crowd erupted with laughter, and Russell Peters made some kind of of Flaming joke, that made things really awkward, as the camera just kind of zoomed in on Russell and the kid.

Well the ones I hadn't heard before (like Feist) I searched out to listen to and they sounded awful so I will have to say that for some it is a limited exposure that I have had to them, but tried to listen to what seemed like their "best" songs.

So for:They may actually have talent that I missed. The others, Feist especially, in my view do not.

Well good on ya for actually giving it a shot, but you appear to be saying

"I don't like it = not talented"

which is kind of a strange way to look at it.

Should have included in my opinion in the first post. Did in the second.

I will say that I find it difficult to find a lot of talent in stuff that I find to be crap. Others may have a different view on what talent is but for me a song/music have at least some sort of merit to it for me to want to credit the artist with having talent.

Edit: I guess in the second post I said my view not opinion. Don't want to get sued for slander from misquoting an earlier post.

Well fine. I'm just splitting hairs here I guess. It's just that despite some of the obvious manufactured pop stars (and even they have some talent, even if it's not music), anyone who can make a living from making music has to have some amount of talent.

There is plenty of music out there that I don't like either but I just don't know that I'm qualified to say the don't have any talent. Saying something like "the people at the Junos don't have any talent" is like saying "Mark Smith is a crappy hockey player". They are at the Junos, he is in the NHL. They must have some talent, even if we don't like the results.
