Just watched that last night actually. I wouldn't say it was a terrible movie, but certainly not good or great by any means. I thought it had a cool idea, the society collapsing stuff was good. But eventually I stopped caring, the plot was weak and the part where they just walked away from the soldiers was dumb. First time anyone has seen a baby in 18 years and they forget about it in 15 seconds and go back to fighting. Riiight.

I think some people put too much emphasis on the plot. The plot doesn't always have to be the most important part of the movie. That movie has mood unlike any other. The characters are great. The direction and cinematography are fantastic. I do happen to like the plot and every time I watch the movie I like it more and more. But I can see why it would turn some people off. It is different than the mainstream. The ending isn't fairytale, the viewer has to piece some things together on their own. It can be slow moving at times. But that's why I liked it.

Worst movie of my life. I seriously considered dumping my girlfriend after she dragged me to this. There is nothing that even comes close to how bad this movie is. I would watch Spider-man 3 on loop for 100 hours before I'd ever watch this piece of crap again.

Well for one I don't like when a pretentious piece of rubbish is passed as art.

Seriously... how is it pretentious?! It's a story, a damn good experiential story with some incredible acting.

Wow. Thats some serious hate.

I wont even watch this if it comes on a movie channel. Fool's Gold sound's like a cinematic Medusa...as soon as you see it, it turns your brain into decomposing dogcrap.

I just watched NCFOM last night and I would say it is far from pretentious. I am a fan of Cormac McCarthy's novels and I was very happy with how this one translated on screen.

No biggie, movies are subjective and you are entitled to your opinion even if it is wrong!

and how could I forget, Slap Shot 2. This movie should be put on a rocket and launched into the sun, never to be seen again.

What makes it pretentious though? The fact that it's so critically acclaimed?

It's meant to be representative of the book and it does a simply amazing job doing that.

Crash (Paul Haggis, not the Cronenberg one)
Collateral -Michael Mann shouldn't be allowed to make movies.
The Matrix 2 & 3
Millennium- I've seen a few people posting 12 Monkeys as one of the worst films (it's one of my faves), but if you want to see a bad time travelling movie, this is the one.
Fire and Ice-I like Frank Frazetta and all, but this was terrible.
Napoleon Dynamite- The worst movie EVER.
Death Proof and Kill Bill- what happened to Quentin Tarantino?
Da Vinci Code
Elizabeth: The Golden Age- Clive Owen proves he is a very overrated actor.
Basic Instinct 2
Hustle and Flow
United 93- total hearsay
Transformers- The second worst movie ever.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Alexander, although I actually really enjoyed it

Well for example actions of main characters are unrealistic and their point they are trying hard to get across is trivial (evil always wins and cannot be stoped) portrayed as a psycho killer roaming around free. If you need to have dumbed down unrealistic settings like that to carry your "artsy" message, I call that pretentions.

Real psychological (society) dramas dont need something this cheap to support their message. Its like if you tried to get across a point that "you can do whatever you want in your life if you try hard enough" by making your characters walk through walls, would that be artsy or stupid and pretentions? Chirrughs (sp) character is dumbed down like Michael Myers yet critis are having orgams over him, why is that?

Or another example, point that you cannot change your destiny no matter what you do is driven across just by stupid decision by Lewellen (sp). Dramatic implications do not happen, if they didnt build their message on a ridiculous and cheap premise.
