Default Youtube stops playing after two seconds

Apologies if this is a Fata... way too many search terms to try with the 10 second wait between searches.

So here's the question.

Youtube stops playing after two seconds. It shows the whole video loading, but stops playing at 0:02. You can move it to any part of the movie, and it stops 2 seconds later. I've even seen Windows Media Player streaming movies do the same thing.

I've seen this with Firefox, IE, and on two different computers, on and off. Google search linked to forums, and everyone seems to be clueless. Lots of garbage answers such as "your connection is too slow" and "your computer sucks". I don't think it's a bandwidth issue, which is what most people think it is, because it does actually load, it just doesn't play.

I suspect most of people's "solutions" are things that didn't actually solve the problem, because it comes and goes. A case of correlation without causation.

So chances are this is a total shot in the dark, but does anyone know how to fix this?

If this needs to go in the Help forum, mods, please excuse me and move it. However, this forum seems to be getting used for non-forum tech issues, so I hope it's okay to post it here.

Ridiculously slow for me right now - there is obviously a problem somewhere on the internets.

I see this all the time too, I've been told it's a bug in the current version of the flash player and some browers.. I haven't had it since I've been using the firefox 3 betas. Some have suggested that rolling back to an earlier version of flash fixes it as well but I don't know which versions.

If you quit the browser entirely so it unloads from memory and then reload it it seems to fix it fr a while.

I too was receiving this same problem with IE and Firefox, all different versions. As well, it happens with any flash movie player on any website.

I don't know what I did though, but it's working just fine now. I think there was a flash update maybe that buggered everything.

They were doing maintenance on youtube last night. Perhaps they were correcting something.

Does Windows Media streaming use Flash? Because it happens with Windows Media as well sometimes.

Nope, windows media uses a paperclip, string, and 14 magnets. Or at least that's what I gather from how crappy it is.

I has been doing this to me on my Vista Laptop running FF3B5. The strange thing is on my Apple running FF3B5 I have no problems with it. I beginning to think it is Flash that is the problem. I was also doing it with FF2 as well.

I'm getting it in the Comedy Skits thread. It is a new development for sure, and nothing to do with harddrive space.... hmmm.

I'm pretty sure whats happening here is that the Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled like they are on youtube, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material.

The whole video loads (or at least appears to load, if the load bar means absolutely nothing). It's not a bandwidth issue.

I also had to clear the cache in Firefox.

Thanks, but this still doesn't explain why you see the same thing in Windows Media.

And apparently my trouble hasn't gone away 100% of the time, so it's really not a fix.

FYI, if anyone is still having this problem (as I have been) you can roll back to Flash version 8 and it should solve it.
