Default Ticket Scalping ? ( sorry if in wrong thread)

If Alberta has a no scalping law, how are places like stub hub etc allowed to sell tickets for outrageous prices??? I was thinking maybe because they are a company outside of Alberta but you still have to pick up the tickets from a place in Alberta.....

HMmmm i was always just curious... anyone know anything about it?

they FedEx the tickets to you, there's no pickup. I bought tix to the Tampa & Florida games back in December and they were at my door in 2 days.

i bought tickets to a st louis cardinals game and picked them up in downtown st louis...... so is them shipping them the only loophole they use to get away from scalping charges?

I believe scalpers use a system where they sell you a hockey card for "X" amount of dollars and throw in the game tickets for free.

I believe it is because they are considered a "ticket broker" and thus are able to charge you whatever they want. I believe the loophole is that they are providing a service and therefore are allowed to charge more for it.

Same way that ticketmaster scalps tickets in their auctions etc. You are actually buying the tix off another person not ticketmaster in some of these scenarios but since it is through ticketmaster it is legal scalping.

well what i found interesting is that you're not allowed to scalp tickets in san jose either but then right on the san jose sharks website, under tickets, there's a link called "Power Play Ticket Trader" which has nothing to do with trading. It's where season ticket holders (or anyone else) can resell their tickets and are allowed to sell at a higher price!

You get the tickets delivered to your inbox! I did that for the sharks/oilers game a few sundays ago....

Isnt that scalping too? It's "illegal" in Cali the same way as Alberta.

I'm sure there are a million other things that are more illegal and dangerous to society than ticket scalping. If there were actual officers dedicated to catching scalpers, then I might have to request my tax dollars back!

Not on StubHub. StubHub is a ticket broker and does not set the price of the tickets on their site. That is up to the seller. StubHub does charge a fee to the seller and the buyer. I think for selling it is about $15.00 per ticket and similar for the buyer. So they are making around $30 per ticket sold on their site. The fee does include shipping for the buyer and seller.
