Default CBC Cuts Calgary Newsworld Studio

As if Toronto didn't have enough, they now will run CBC Newsworld 24 hours a day. Canada's Government run news network with a mandate that speaks to reaching out to all parts of Canada is now run out of one city.

CBC News is shutting down the Calgary unit of its 24-hour Newsworld television service as of the end of May.

"Doing the couple of hours of Newsworld out in Alberta didn't make any sense any longer. We could do it more efficiently or effectively in Toronto, where we do the other hours," CBC News publisher John Cruickshank said Thursday afternoon.

I know it 'makes sense for business', but CBC is pathetic. The hate on for Calgary is tiring.

Well, seeing as how the CBC is public sector, it doesn't make sense for business.

Well, is it going to make a difference to the content? If not, might as well keep things centralized and save money.

However, if other cities have this studio, then either they may be doing the same to those cities, or this move seems strange then.

Calgary and Toronto were the only two studios for CBC newsworld.

Meh, no big deal. Who watches CBC Television anyways? CTV is decent for National news. CNN and BBC World cover international news. All the CBC specializes in is terrible documentaries that spread a biased view of things: http://www.cbc.ca/doczone/tarsands/

The other side of things...looks like they are hiring more people to do local reporting:

"However, 25 new positions — largely reporters, camera operators and other field production posts — will be created in Calgary and Edmonton as part of an ongoing attempt by CBC News to boost newsgathering and local coverage by putting more "feet on the street.""
