Default Sports Illustrated Vault

This will be pretty cool.

Sports Illustrated, which faces fierce daily, even hourly, competition with ESPN, Yahoo Sports and others, has something its main rivals do not: a 53-year trove of articles and photos, most of it from an era when the magazine dominated the field of long-form sports writing and color sports photography.
On Thursday, the magazine will introduce the Vault, a free site within SI.com that contains all the words Sports Illustrated has ever published and many of the images, along with video and other material, in a searchable database.

This will help me get over SI losing both Rick Reilly and Steve Rushin last year.

The photos are going to be what makes this cool. I'm not much of a fan of SI - but their photography over the years has set the standard.

Wonderful!

They had many pictures of the Battle of Alberta in the 80s. I'm looking forward to seeing those again!

I remember the NHL hot - NBA not cover / article like it was yesterday.

Sort of depressing considering where the NHL has gone since then.

Ya the NHL couldn't have had a worse string of events occur just months after that issue was printed. First a lockout, then when the season is finally saved, the New Jersey Devils win the Cup by ushering in the decade-long era of the Trap. Pretty much killed any momentum the NHL had going for it south of the border.
