Scar Tissue by the Chili Peppers has always been one of those songs that's great driving down a dusty highway when it's blazing hot out, and One Headlight by the Wallflowers for nighttime driving.

I know you're strictly looking for songs, but IMO The Presidents of the United States self titled album is a great road trip album...
What makes a great road trip album, is songs that either
A: get you in the driving mode,
 B: can simply relax to
C: are fimiliar enough with everyone that you can bust out a sing a long.

 Muse - Knights of cydonia
Modest mouse - float on, Doin' the Cockroach, dashboard
 Smashing pumpkins (esp. 1979)
 Tom Petty
 queen,
 alan jackson,
 nitty gritty dirt band,
 beach boys
Frick I really could go on for days, I'm trying to hit a few different genres there...

Essentially the songs I listen to on road trips are songs that I don't listen to very often thoughout the year while im not on road trips.

The Open Road Song by...Eve 6 I think...Straight Lines by Silverchair
Float On and Dashboard by Modest Mouse
Wish You Were Here by Incubus
Nowhere With You by Joel Plaskett
Take Me Home Country Roads---good ol Johnny D!
Unsound---The Headstones...well actually anything by The Headstones really

Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova for the win though

"Fall to Pieces" is a great song for when you're driving through the Rockies on the edge of a sheer cliff...

Many Springsteen songs are about driving:
Born To Run, Thunder Road, Darlington County:

 Driving in to Darlington County
Me and Wayne on the Fourth of July
 Driving in to Darlington County
Looking for some work on the county line
We drove down from New York City
Where the girls are pretty but they just want to know your name
 Driving in to Darlington City
Got a union connection with an uncle of Wayne's
We drove eight hundred miles without seeing a cop
We got rock and roll music blasting off the T-top singing

 Bob Seger, Roll Me Away:

Took a look down a westbound road,
Right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two-wheeler,
I was tired of my own voice
Took a bead on the northern plains
And just rolled that power on

 Prince, Little Red Corvette:

Girl, u got an ass like I never seen
 And the ride...
I say the ride is so smooth
 U must be a limousine

 Rush, Red Barchetta:

I strip away the old debris, that hides a shining car
A brilliant red barchetta, from a better, vanished time
I fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime...

I would have to include some Weezer...in particular "Say it ain't so".
Also don't overlook "The Neil"...perhaps Cracklin Rosie or Sweet Caroline?

When I go on long rides I listen to different stuff than I noramlly listen to. Your CD looks like my usual collection.
