Just wow. FW be careful going to meet her again, don't take any chances - 100 bucks isn't worth getting beat up or shot over. And just to reiterate: this is NOT your fault.
|
Thanks for the support Arlo! I think I am going to meet up with her, but my cop friend said he would come with me if the time is right, otherwise I'll probably think of something else, as I don't want to meet up with her by myself, even though, like the majority on here believe, she's probably just saying sh*t to try and intimidate me.
BTW I'm alright with the way this thread has gone, people have a right to their opinion, and they don't know me in real life, so they just see that I made a bit of money of one pair of tickets and assume I'm a low life scalping a**hole, but that's alright.
The only one who got to me in this thread was Shawnski, but I've only talked to him a few times in the time I've been on CP, and he's been a condescending jerk everytime.

Fruit Loops and Pina Colada coolers for the win! (It wasn't my coolers, it was my friends. But it was delicious. My beer and fruit loops, not so much.)

actually i wouldnt worry bout people thinking your a scalping A-hole... its funny people think that but then dont say a thing when peole try to sell nintendo wii's on the board for double their cost...
i think i would have more of a problem if you bought season tickets for the sole purpose selling them for high prices and not going to any games. but since you use your tickets more often than not, why not make a lil momey off of them if you have to miss a game or two

OHHH my bad, well i dont see them , but its still a widely accepted thing for people to buy consoles and sell them for double sometimes more than what they bought them for. I just dont see why its such a big deal to make a lil money off tickets sometimes. Like i said its not like he bought season tickets just to sell them.

It was Labour Day Classic McMahon stadium about 2000 or 2001. 50/50 draw. I saunter up to one of the junior football jersey wearing young lads at approximately the same time as some other fellow in the east concourse. I was there slightly ahead of him but it was early and I was in no rush and he was. I said go ahead, no worries.
I purchased a single ticket and went on my way. I always purchase single tickets because I feel if you're due you only need the one.
The 3rd quarter ends and it's time for the announcement of todays lucky 50/50 winner.
The guy who sits inside that Giant speaker suspended over center field makes his announcement.
5 -yes, 8 -yes, 7-yes!, 7 -yes!!, 0 yes!!!!, 5 - Wha!! no friggen way.
my number was 587706. The gentlemen whom "budged", whom I so graciously let advance had the lucky ticket and was some $25000 richer.
Go figure eh?
I love that story in a sick sort of way.
|
For what it's worth, that ticket would not have been guaranteed to be drawn had you been there first, taken a couple extra/less seconds to purchase, made change, etc. Junior football dude would have arrived at the barrel at a different time, tickets get mixed differently, etc.
Still a damn good story though!

I understand, the one time you try to take more illegally and it ends up in disaster. Very frustrating indeed. I personally don't think you're a low-life scalping a**hole at all. In fact you're probably very much like everyday people I meet and see all the time. I also agree with the assumption that the asian lady you sold your tickets to is indeed sketchy and less reputable than you on the whole. However this is where my support for you runs out.
Using this "low on cash" excuse is a moral cop out. I'm going to say this flat out: chraging $300 for green seats is douchbaggery in every sense of the word even when it happens only once, even when the buyers are Asian-gangster Canuck fans, and even when the proceeds go towards a cash-strapped individual who yet is still able to justify on an annual basis the expenditures required to have Flames season tickets. Playing by the rules 98% of the time doesn't morally buy you one scalping indulgence. The only excuse I would accept would be that you actually need that $300 to buy medication for desperate ailing family members and all other avenues to raise such funds would have led you to do other illegal activities.
It's a moral slippery slope from "I'm low on cash so I scapled my Flames tickets to one game" to "I find that I'm low on cash rather often so I scalp my Flames tickets when the need arises" to "I generate secondary income off of scalping my Flames tickets"
So going back to the original thesis of this thread, you're net ahead $40 of what you paid but you're entitled to recieve face value, and the Asian-gangster lady has tickets that cost $20 above face but she acquired them by threatning gang-violence and weaselling out on a bet. By the rules of Karma you deserve to get screwed out of $20 at some point in time and she deserves to be forced to do something she promised to do at the threat of gang violence by also recieving an extra $20. Next time you drive by one of those massage parlours run by Asian gangsters you'll know she's paid her price to karma and oddly enough when you walk in a pay an extra $20 for a happy ending at said parlour you'll have paid your price too!

Have you never had 300 dollars in your hand before.. Wouldn't you feel how light the money was and try to stop her. I mean 5- 20's are not the same as 15- 20's. I would have got her to count the money right there..

And you've just pointed out the main flaw detractors of capitalism point to, greed.

well not really, because a capalist society still has laws, and one of the laws the flames organization has is to not sell tickets above face value.

Actually we live in a semi socialist socitey.
That's why doing things like selling tickets for 3 times their face value is illegal.
Just sayin' is all.

Actually, the reason you are not allowed to sell tickets for more than their face value is because it can negatively affect the business that the tickets belong to.
It's in the Flames best interest to not have fans being isolated by people charging insane amounts for their tickets. Big picture-wise, it's in the teams best interest for people of a wide variety of income backgrounds to have access to the games.
The ticket scalping laws are in place to help buisiness (and capitalism).

There's a double standard though where its okay for the big companies to overcharge for things and rip people off, but it aint cool for the little guy to take a piece for himself once in a while.
