How is this a sign of "worsening" global warming? It's perhaps a sign that this area of the Antarctic is warmer now than it was when the ice shelf formed, but the fact that it collapsed now, as opposed to 10 years ago, does NOT necessarily mean that the area is warmer now than it was 10 years ago.
It takes an ice cube 20 minutes to melt if you put it on your kitchen counter. That doesn't mean the kitchen is warmer than it was 5 minutes ago...even though there's less and less ice over time. It means it's warmer than the freezer.

Why are we already so convinced global warming is a bad thing?
I'd rather wait until a Manhattan sized piece of Manhattan falls into the ocean!

Three cheers for the global warming debate!
Signed,
The worst winter in 100 years
It's called climate change. Weather is going to become more extreme on both ends of the spectrum. We'll adapt. No big deal.

climate change, w/e....set yourself up for a told you so, regardless of what happens...
anyways icebergs falling into the sea happen all the time...all the time...not really evidence of anything...but that isnt to say something isnt happening....

So does the extinction of organisms. Doesn't mean we shouldn't be concerned when it does happen... especially if there is a possibility that we are the reason.

Nobody is ever concerned when ever anything else that feels like its Manhatten sized hits the water.

oh we should be concerned that humanity and all its toys are now more powerfull than the sun!!
but your right, we should be concerned....we live on a earth that is ever changing, conditions were perfect for life to spring up...but eventually our fault or not...conditions are going to change....and we wont be here...
off to mars, pronto!

When 99% of all species that have ever lived on the earth have already gone extinct, it's a drop in the ocean.

I don't think the alarming fact is that this massive piece of ice fell into the ocean, but rather how fast it happened and how much more frequent this is becoming.
True this has happened a lot of times in the history of the Earth but not at this rate.

Well if you believe science, this lil town called Calgary was covered in that said ice....bout 10,000 years ago?
now where is that said ice? 3000 km north? that's pretty fast....

False dichotomy.
It's funny to go back in history and observe the bogeymen that stirred moral or political hysteria. In the 70's Global Cooling was a big one. There was also dire predictions about over-population in the mid-20th century. Malthus predicted impending global famine back in the 18th century. Each generation seems to have it's persuasive Chicken little that is able to inflame the paranoia and fear of the population. The fact that they are almost always wrong never seems to deter the next Chicken Little.

False dichotomy my ass.
It's just a faster way to get the eventual "well, we should clean up the environment, but not because of global warming" solution that we always end up with.
And global cooling gets trotted out every time. That "prediction" has nothing on the climate change "prediction". It wasn't quite as prevalent as is always suggested.
