Default Camping on the Okanagan

Hello folks,

My wife and I are planning a tenting trip during the 1st week of July somewhere along Okanagan Lake. My question is, where is the best place to go tenting in that area? My wife's never been, and the last time I was there was about 20 years ago (man, I'm getting old)

Any suggestions?

Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park is my pick.

IIRC, it's easist to get to by boat, but there are some dirt roads that will take you there from Kelowna/Vernon/Penticton.

It's like a backcountry Rockies campground in the Okanagan. Here's an info link I just dug up:

http://www.britishcolumbia.com/parks/?id=147

Edit- Looks like the roads only take you to a parking lot, and you hike in. I don't think it's all that far though- we arrived via boat, and although I remember checking out most of the park, I don't remember exactly how far away the tent sites were.

One more edit- If you wanna venture a little further north, past Kamloops, the Myrtle Lake area is breathtaking.

I loved this campground:

Okanagan Lake Provincial Park is located in the Southern Okanagan region of British Columbia, 7 miles (11 km) north of Summerland on Highway 97.

The water is warm in the summer, and great for swimming.

Indeed, spend a couple weeks there every year. though if you're just tenting it you can probably find something for adventurous.

Bump. Going to the Okanagan in a couple weeks with the gf and looking for a decent place to tent comfortably (she's gotta have a shower). Hopefully not a party spot - just looking for a nice place to relax and unwind for a few days. Any suggestions?

I remember a decent little spot called 'Pixie Beach' thats just outside of Kelowna...you might have some luck if you google it. Nice, secluded little spot right on the lake.

The Fintry Campground on the western side of the lake. It would take you about 35 minutes to drive to Kelowna from the campground. It's not a party spot from what I know of it, but more of a family place. It also has the requisite showers.

Personally, I would camp on one of the many other small lakes in the area instead of the big lake, but it's harder to find a place with any ammenities up in the hills. If you want to know of some more rustic spots, I'll share what I know, but it sounds like you need to have running water at your site.
