I used to worked with Cont Ed for a few years, up until last August, and can't see them ever doing away with credit card payments as the majority of registrations are done online.

Wow, I used CC for university... couldn't imagine using a debit card / cheque to pay for a one-time tuition fee of that amount. Where does the average student have money for that? I would assume credit / debt is used to pay THIS size of fee.
Oh, and bring back InfoNet. WAAAAAAAAAY better system. I used it ALL the time to EASILY register for classes, pay tuition, check grades and request transcripts. PeopleSoft sucks.

Two words for you my friend- cash advance.
Transfer funds from Visa to chequing, and pay with a cheque. Unless you were planning on paying the entire amount off within 20-30 days it doesn't affect how much you pay in interest. All it affects is how many reward points you get.

" ON-LINE - Payments can be made using Visa or MasterCard through the PeopleSoft Student Center. To access the Student Center, login to the myUofC Portal and click on the PeopleSoft Student Center link. Once in, under the heading Student Financials, click on Make a Payment. Paying Fees through PeopleSoft."

Meh, rather would do it as a one-time payment. You still owe money either way.

I think the first line at the top of the page is the recent news. The rest was on the page before but they haven't had time to go through and change everything. Hence more info later...

I went to San Jose State for undergrad and if you wanted to pay by credit card you would have to pay an extra transaction fee to make up for what it costs the university (the cc fees). And yup, just like others on this board, I would use my American Airlines card to get miles...got enough to come home to Alberta and watch BOAs

Apparently the savings to U of C works out to be between $750,000 to $800,000.

It always bugs me when people look at the little picture instead of the big one. If the university is indeed saving $800K, that is money that is not being charged to students. And if you need to use your credit card to pay versus a loan, you may want to take a basic finance course (18% versus student loan rates).

That's kinda weird. In my basic finance course i learned that i pay 0% on my credit card until the balance is overdue.
In my situation I've used a CC to pay so i could spread the payments over 3 paychecks without having to pay interest on it. to be honest this fall if it's not a option i'm up creek without a paddle.

The question is, how many full time studends can afford to pay off their entire semester's tuition in 3 paycheques while going to school? I would say those who can are also those who can find another means to make the payment.

That is terrible, Thank God I am done this year. When I went to Western (UWO) they accepted credit cards and it makes it much easier.

Yeah, that's right. If you can get your minimum payment in on time, you're good to go.

Personally I think it's downright ridiculous, I've paid my tuition every year on credit card...is there anybody here that doesn't?
The only thing I could think of that they'd rationalize this with is that the credit card fees are probably exorbitant on likely hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition every year.

Already stated in this thread they'll save about 800k this year. On a budget of 800million+, so is the inconvienience to students worth a increase in revenues of less then .1%?
I say no. But thats just 1 persons opinion.

that's incorrect. you need to pay off the full balance by the due date to pay 0% interest. if you just make the minimum payment, then they actually calculate interest from the day you made the purchase, then apply your minimum payment to the interest first, and anything extra then goes to principal.
so basically, if you want an interest free loan, then you have to pay the entire balance off. which is what i do since i get cash back on all my purchases. so i actually make money using my CC rather than paying
